Crunchy Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Sorry, if this turns out to be a daft question, but does this jet have a compass? I mean, I can't tell if I'm flying North, East, South or West. I've looked all over in the cockpit and it's probably staring me in the face but I can't find it.
mattebubben Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 hud? On the top of the hud there is a the heading. 0 = north 90 = east 180 = south 270= west
Retu81 Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 The primary attitude indicator looks like it has a compass built in.
Blech Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Hi, HUD HSI - compass rose Shows True Heading or Magnetic Heading (HSI mode selector) See Manual page 80/81 \DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\Mods\aircraft\M-2000C\Doc\DCS M-2000C Flight Manual EN.pdf

Seems like I can't find that either LOL. here: \DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\Mods\aircraft\M-2000C\Doc\DCS M-2000C Flight Manual EN.pdf or \DCS World\Mods\aircraft\M-2000C\Doc\DCS M-2000C Flight Manual EN.pdf if you don't use the DCSW Alpha Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
PiedDroit Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 HUD, ADI, HSI all have heading information (magnetic heading). Additionally: - HSI displays magnetic heading by default or true heading if mode is Cv NAV (provided by INS). - if your INS is down you can switch to SEC mode to still get gyroscopic info (heading, attitude) Table page 81 of the manual (pdf 82) has all the info for HSI modes.
spiddx Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 In 2.0 with the panels on the right side open you can see another compass-like instrument below the screwdriver. (It isn't moving at the moment though) Specs: i9 10900K @ 5.1 GHz, EVGA GTX 1080Ti, MSI Z490 MEG Godlike, 32GB DDR4 @ 3600, Win 10, Samsung S34E790C, Vive, TIR5, 10cm extended Warthog on WarBRD, Crosswinds
Sarge55 Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I noticed that one the other day, unfortunately it blocks part of the INS keypad for me. Like to see it moved back and right a bit. Corsair Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 It's an emergency compass. You usually don't have time to mess with INS control panel in that kind of situations..
Sarge55 Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 It's an emergency compass. You usually don't have time to mess with INS control panel in that kind of situations.. No worried about emergency situations.... I'm concerned it will be there during routine operations and blocking my view. NeilWillis Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Strictly speaking, if it is a compass, which is a magnetic instrument, it will only ever point to magnetic North. All the instruments that show anything else aren't simple compasses. Ironically, for half of the Earth's history, North has been South! True and grid North direction is always derived from either the magnetic reading, or some other form of positional data such as GPS or inertial navigation systems.
Zeus67 Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 It is an emergency magnetic compass. By default it is in the stowed position, unfortunately when we compiled the new cockpit they were in the open position. They will be fully animated for the next update.
