In my opinion having the menus and the mission editor on the monitor instead of the HMD would add to the general experience.

That one doesn't actually bother me. I actually like "standing" in the hangar on 2.0. If I'm going to do some mission building I just uncheck the Oculus.

This is my favorite convention! All application interaction on the main screen, flying/driving/playing/whatever on the Oculus.

Skate, where did you find out about OH 1.4 under clocking cards? Mine is getting bad now too. Constantly reapplying the afterburner profile to bring clocks up from 1130 to 1470. Even when OH isn't running it's doing it. Grr.

Received the CV1 last Thursday and it is a big improvement over the DK2. Everything in the cockpit is so crisp. You can even read the gauges and the HUD is more readable. Far horizon is also greatly improved.

Setting override to 1.5 in debug tool makes a big difference.

I only have to learn to fly any plane or heli properly .

Sounds great. Congrats on getting your Rift.

Which version of debug tool and runtime are you using?

How is your fps?

I've had my CV1 since Saturday and I've got a buddy over who flies GA. Seeing his reaction to flying the F-15 for the first time in DCS over Nellis has been a revelation. He cannot get enough of it and that makes me feel ok about having spent a small fortune building a PC and buying the Rift. I'm the son of a fighter pilot and apart from 45 mins flying as a passenger in an English Electric Lightning (yes, it was incredible) I've been waiting my whole life for this. It's amazing. The A-10 for me isn't there because I can't read the MFDs nor the HUD so i'm gonna learn how to fly A2A in the 15. I'm a DCS newb and I was going to go with the A10 but the Rift means it's the 15 for me. Enjoy fellow Rifters

We have a real world pilot and our group and he stated basically the same stuff as someone who will probably never fly reel planes that's good to hear :-) also welcome aboard penjgn :)

Thanks a lot. I've got about 100 hours of single engine piston flying and 500 hours on gliders (sailplanes in American English). DCS plus Oculus Rift makes me feel a lot like I'm flying. Finally!

Latest runtime and debug tool 1.4.

FPS seem good, only tried alone without enemies for now. There is a little judder some times but asynchronous time wrap is doing well.

I have yet to test other graphic configurations.

Would any CV1 owners be so kind as to post their impressions of combat? Either A/A or A/G.

I think I read somewhere the lower res makes things a little tricky; is this offset by better situational awareness?

Thanks.

I find the A-10C MFDs and HUD unreadable but in this thread you'll see people are addressing that with the debug tool, which I've yet to try. That might make it workable. Spotting ground units tough because of the res. HOTAS is essential because u can only get a peak at the keyboard through the gap near your nose. I don't find it easy to click cockpit switches but people may have a workaround. I don't think maps/kneeboard/external views are available but might be wrong.

The F-15 HUD is easily readable. Without labels A2A is tricky because res means it's hard to spot other aircraft. Dogfighting is a lot more physical than with TrackIR because you're looking behind you a lot (if you're me). Thankfully only at 1g rather than up to 9g IRL. Landing and formation I find much easier in the Rift due to depth perception.

I feel much more IN the situation so my orientation feels much better and my whole attention is captured so my SA is better from that point of view but I don't know how to see the map so i'm reliant on landmarks and without labels it's harder to spot other aircraft - BVR this isn't an issue but WVR it makes a knife fight trickier but on the other hand easier from a spatial orientation pov.

So overall it's not brilliant for combat IMO but then again the thought of flying with a flat monitor rather than being immersed thanks to the Rift...it just doesn't get me excited anymore. When the res improves on CV2 and the VR specific issues above are ironed out then it will be epic.

PS I have very little combat experience in DCS, I was just getting to grips with basic low threat A2G in the A-10C when my Rift arrived.

F10 and Knee Boards Arent,

External Views Work Fine.

I Dont see how you are still having HUD Readability Issues, I can Read the HUD in the -10C fine.

MFD Labels are a bit small but everything is still usable.

I find the Resolution to not be a problem in WVR Dogfighting,

Zoom is Over Rated/Over Used even buy Users on Monitors.

HUD and MFDs on A-10C easily readable for you without any mods?

HUDs Yes, MFD Main Functions yes, the small button labels no, but I can still make them out by leaning in a lil bit.

with no mods MFD's in A-10C are readable for me too,Hud is a little blurry but readable. With the Debug tool HUD and MFD's are 100 percent readable, its night and day difference.

I use Snap Views for the MFDs, not gonna overcrank the res until I get a newer GPU.

Anyone seeing the same effect as me on the F-15 HUD? If I centre the view I see some of the HUD through my right eye and some of it through my left but not the whole HUD through both so my brain has to fuse the images. Is this normal? I've tried centring in different head positions but not really found a way to resolve it. It works fine but feels a bit odd and takes some getting used to.

.......total bliss

Is this Adrian from iRacing?

I use Andre's Sim Shaker utility with 2 shakers and a 100w amp under my seat...very subtle for me and I love it.
