Teej Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 My $.02… Communication on USB 2 is host-driven. No data passes to or from the devices (rift, camera, etc) unless the computer initiates the request. USB 3 allows communication to be initiated by the device. Thus it doesn’t have to wait for the periodic polling from the host. USB 2 communication therefore usually runs on a polling “heartbeat”. The computer will poll the OR camera. The data it receives gets sent to the rift itself on its next scheduled polling cycle. The rift’s response comes back on the following polling cycle etc. There can be “latency” introduced by this waiting for polling. USB3 bypasses that by allowing the devices to communicate as fast as necessary….USB3 has 10 times the bandwidth as well. As to the rift and its camera…. the camera / sensor is definitely responsible for determining the rift’s “location” in 3D space. Orientation and changes thereof, however, are primarily measured on board the rift head unit (with a built in magnetometer / accelerometer / gyro). Something (whether it’s the rift itself or the driver on the PC) is reconciling the two data sources for smoothness/accuracy. While some software will complain if the sensor/camera is unplugged, some others will run anyway - and you still have much, but not all, of the Rift’s positional accuracy/freedom. "Tank! SkateZilla Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 (edited) VR problems plaguing Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1080, GTX 1070 will be fixed this week they said that last week.... Recap, so people dont think this driver will magically make VR Games 200% faster. The Driver will: -Tell the GPU to Ramp up to the Full Boost Clocks during Oculus and SteamVR API Titles. A Whopping 126-150Mhz Depending on model.... A whopping 7% more clocks if you can keep the profile to allow 100%+ Full boost the entire time, a whole 4-6 FPS more Per 60 FPS -Allow DisplayPORT to Communicate w/ HTC Vive via DualMODE DisplayPORT. SageOT Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Got mine today - really nice experience! Even with my poor gtx 770... But PD 2 is too much for it - will upgrade soon. It's all personal preference of course but I find PD 1.6-1.8 makes everything legible in the cockpits and it's not -quite- the drain of 2.0. For me 1.5 is just barely not enough and 2.0 isn't necessary.... VFA-25 Fist of the Fleet[sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Virtual Carrier Strike Group One | Discord
Einherjer Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 You are right, it's something in the middle, 2.0 brings a really clear vision, but it was a quick and dirty test session between lunch and work. I will looking for my best setting. PS: Sensor on a almost full USB 2.0 10 port hub doesn't really degrade the tracking...

mr_mojo97 Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 Hi, ordered the rift on Tuesday from the Oculus store and it arrived Friday. Not had the chance to se it DCS yet though. I keep hearing about the different runtimes and sdk, should I be using this or just use the PD in settings? Anything else I need to know? The Apollo 11 doc is amazing by the way. KLR Rico Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 You don't need to worry about the runtime, it's all plug-and-play. You can use the PD setting under the VR tab on 1.5.4, but you have to use the Oculus SDK tool to adjust PD in 2.0 The 970 doesn't have a whole lot of excess power to run higher PD (it was my last GPU), but you might be able to bump it a little bit if you turn off MSAA, which you don't really need at the higher PDs anyway. If you do mess with the PD, DCS is playable at >=45 FPS as long as there's enough GPU power in reserve to keep the asynchronous time warp (ATW) working at 90 FPS. If you push the PD too high you'll run out of reserve GPU power, then the ATW frame rates start to get hit and you'll get sick or it will just look like crap. You can monitor the ATW frame rate with the Oculus SDK tool, or you can just monitor GPU usage and make sure you're not spending too much time at >90% utilization. i5-4670K@4.5GHz / 16 GB RAM / SSD / GTX1080 Rift CV1 / G-seat / modded FFB HOTAS
