Yea I'm getting the lines as well, the fps is fine though. I'm using a gtx980

Screenshot? I am struggling to find any lines, maybe cause i use an AMD card?

Here's a screenshot from the Su-27 Freeflight Instant Action, on my rig (i5 3570K @ 4.3 GHz, ASUS GTX 970 OC Strix, 16 GB ram). Always above 60 FPS at this altitude (no mirrors) or above/in/below the clouds.

I forced the AA transparency so it might be the reason for these artifacts (I didn't test without that setting).

Mustang it appears I fixed the problem on my end by forcing antialiasing transparency to on in the nvidia control panel will test further, it is a greater fps hit at 4K but will continue to tinker. These clouds are to amazing not to have .

Ok upon further testing it seems that forcing smooth vsync in nvidia control panel is what gets rid of those terrain lines. I run sli so who knows but it's very nic now minus the fps hit of course.

So I've noticed with the pure stock new clouds it runs great for nvidia cards. Mustang is their by chance a version you have or can make that doesn't change any texture or shader stuff but just gives us the good cloud grouping like with your mod version? Aka the 1-8 settings of clouds actually having a big grouping difference.

Enduro, can you please attach an image of the options in Nvidia control panel and the AA level inside DCS menu ?

I tried several options but still have the lines..

So after all day of testing I found what got rid of the lines for me was forcing Smooth vsync in the Nvidia control panel. It's an option available if your running sli. It's the only way for me to get rid of lines.

If you have sli and run smooth vsync make sure to turn off vsync in game.

Ahmm, so is an option only available while using sli.. that's why I can't find it.. I'm going to investigate about it..

I see the lines through the clouds on a single GTX980TI.

for me its the shape of mountains etc that have almost like glowing mountain lines etc.

This particular problem cannot be avoided i'm afraid, it's the direct affect the the cloud texture meeting the terrain (texture mask) it is particularly low res too which makes it look worse - if you set the cloud base higher than the terrain the problem won't be there.

Also is it me it does the tgp and schval see straight through these clouds too?

Yes this is incomplete part of the cloud coding by ED, also notice that there are no clouds seen in mirrors, all still work in progress (infact i hope that ED has ditched these clouds for something more superior)

At least it gives a great idea about how interesting the volumetric clouds could be.

I really hope ED will come up with something including different cloud formations depending on a weather system.

I'd love to spot cumulonimbus clouds and immediately think "trouble" (=fun). :D

Tested. Yet again, great progress. The cloud formations look great, the performance is excellent, and you seem to have gotten rid of the "rivers glaring through" the clouds as well. Superb!

The only remaining thing now is the jagginess around aircraft edges when having the clouds as background (That is for my gtx 970) will upload screens tomorrow:)

Great work!

Looks amazing just huge fps hit at 4K all the low resolutions it runs fine

Something you could try at 4k: in clouds.lua you have the ability to control the amount of downsampling the clouds use, maybe you could try raising this amount so the framerate stabilizes?

For example:

{ --ultra

{4, 0, 1, 2, 400000.0, 200000.0},

{4, 2, 0, 0, 25000.0, 25000.0}

both the numbers 4 represent the times the cloud textures are downsampled, try using 6 or 8 and see if it helps like this

{ --ultra

{8, 0, 1, 2, 400000.0, 200000.0},

{8, 2, 0, 0, 25000.0, 25000.0}

Awesome sauce will try!!

Helped with fps setting all low to ultra to 8. But here is a pic of the mountains bleeding through.

feel free to try out :)

clouds look nice

hey Mustang, is that your tester version with the screenshot of the visible electric power lines ?

or the current version with fixed visibility of the line (material) ?

or older version ?

Hi, the pics were taken using version 1.5.3 release so the powerlines are showing correctly.

Hi Mustang. You made an amazing job ! :o This is what i call nice cloud.

I have just a little question, do you think that it's so possible to create for DCS cloud like cumulobimbus ? This is the one that really miss in our simulator.

(not asking you to do them, just asking if you think this cloud are possible to code into DCS)

Quick update Mustang I recently got a gtx 1080 and one of the faster ones at that. These clouds now are standard issue for me I made tweak as above but set it to 6 and have constant locked 60fps at 4K now. Man flying down through those clouds for an attack adds an all new awesomeness to the sim.

I'm more than happy to test more tweaks you make!

Hi All

I'm not sure if this helps at all but I have a 980Ti and am suffering with the mountains lines bleeding through the clouds and also white lines around the aircraft same as Enduro14.

What I have found is if I go into the settings and change the Shadow settings to something different from when I started DCS all of the lines go away and I am left with beautiful clouds. I can then change the Shadow Options to anything I want and do not suffer with any lines.

However when I restart DCS all the lines come back and I have to repeat as above.

Hope that helps
