Gman109 Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 If you think Oculus is bad, HTC/Vive is 10x worse. They outsourced their tech support/service obviously, guys barely speak English, and it's a complete and total gong show trying to deal with them, either for returns, or repairs. A friend of mine had to go the charge reversal/credit card protection route as well. In my case, I never received ANY email regarding it shipping, it arrived out of the blue, and still said "in process" on the website order page, and no codes came for any of the software, and it took 10 days of constant emails/phone calls to get them, and they only came when I too started the charge reversal process since they ignored my threats of returning it if the software wasn't included soon. Both of these companies are awful to deal with, so keep careful care of your units, and pray nothing breaks. hansangb Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 My experience with Vive was different. Although it took numerous back and forth, it was because we were playing phone tag. And they allowed me to return the Vive for full refund even though I was past my return date. I was out of the country and could not return in time. I was also getting a little nauseous with Vive (lack of ATW, I guess) so they took all that into consideration. While it wasn't the *best* of experience, it wasn't the worst either. They were pretty good about following up. Speaking of which, another reason why Milan is a *quality* guy to work with. Prompt. Courteous. Timely information. And above all, a Great product! hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
Kuky Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Milan is not outsourced business, why it works so well ;) All of this is are consequences of globalisation and cost saving by outsourcing. Chivas Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 I found the Oculus RMA service extremely polite, easy to deal with, but excruciatingly slow. It felt like they were purposefully delaying the RMA until they had more product available. Its all sorted now, but hopefully they can streamline their support services at some point.
SkateZilla Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Oculus' issue is staffing, on their forums, you literally can count on one hand how many Oculus Reps help people, and still have fingers to spare. With the Volume they Pre-Sold, Sold, and the Manufacturing issues w/ HDMI Cables/Lenses, they should have hired alot more help desk people than they did. Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
Gman109 Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 (edited) It's staffing with HTC as well - a co worker is a former employee there. They have exactly 3 reps in North America which you can NOT get through to, and whom have NO ability to over rule or make any decisions about anything the center in Columbia does, where they've outsourced ALL PR and Customer Service related business. Again, just a couple weeks ago it took me 10 days just to get the software included with the Vive, after several emails per day, various failed attempts at chats, etc. Plus their website doesn't work, if you try and fill out the cancel/return form, it just hangs when you try to complete it, and does nothing, something the rep in Columbia admitted they had been having huge problems with. HansangB, are you in North America, or somewhere else? I wonder why you couch it as a "great product", when you returned it for reasons other than it being broken. Great for everyone else, but not you? Do you mean other than the issues you had with it, it's great in terms of build quality, software, etc? If so, I agree as well. I only ask if you're in N.A. or not as they have different Customer Service locations IIRC outside of Canada/US. And ATW support, while not a magic bullet, made it much easier on the brain/eye/nausea I am in North America. I wanted to pick the best VR solution and for me, Rift was a better choice. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
Gman109 Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 Same here, but after the PITA it was trying to return the Vive, and with seeing the new "Onward" FPS available only on Vive, I kept it as well.
