Returning to DCS (2.0)

Hello to all,

 

I am back to DCS after 2-3 years off. I have a fresh install with the Nevada terrain. I only fly the Blackshark and I will hopefully get my cockpit working again.

 

I enter a Ka-50, sitting with all systems off. I hear an annoying buzzsaw sound. It changes pitch and intensity as I look around. I hear it where ever I place my helo.

 

Is it normal? I really don't want to hear it any more.

Not sure what it could be, but don't think that is normal. I fly the KA-50 in DCSW2 and can't say I hear anything like that.

Fresh DL and install of 1.5.4 refuses to run at all. 2.0 is fine.

The offending sound is not affected by any sim volumes. Has to be in my system somewhere. Weird...

Maybe a short somewhere in the Headphone Cable / Jack?!

 

Sometimes digital audio is weird .. one time i even was able to hear my mouse moving.

 

try other audio connector on mb / frontpanel.

 

Same PC as 3 years ago ?

Yes that is correct.

Hello and thanks, I am thinking issue is caused by the volume slider bug. I think the sound is coming from the static objects and I was not changing the volume as I was not restarting the sim. I note the instant action mission is more quiet than my editor mission.

 

1.5.4 refuses to run. I will concentrate on 2.0 for now. Dying to fly in the new scenery.

 

Yes, same three year old system. I did a good cleaning on it today. Wow! dusty.

I tell you, between Win 10 killing my I/O system (working with the developer now), re-learning how to do multi-monitor and export in 2.0 (#@!#!) and then dealing with whatever new bugs and/or 'features' in BS/DCS, I just might take a sledge hammer to it.

Welcome Back JG.

i'm waiting for more DCS updates before i try nevada again. This map is kinda desertic. Reminds me F/A-18 3 and OIF.

I finally bought my third screen (which is UHD, between my old two 19x12c screens.). Tried yesterday 3 screens display but i'm not really happy with 5760x1200. broken horizon lines between screens, and be forced to limit center screen to 1920x1200.

Hello Enforce, good to hear from you again.

 

Right now, I am getting my 4 screen rig going again, but I have another monitor to finally do a proper instrument panel. I don't want to go to 5 monitors, so I am thinking 2 CP monitors and a huge front screen.

 

It is driving me crazy lately though. My TIR software stops my Phidget LED cards from working, and Helios has been giving me fits. I'll get it working only to have it quit again. Full system reloads, you name it, I've tried it.

 

If I get flying, I'll see you.

2.0 , the F99th guys (their server) have some pretty well thought out missions in Multiplayer if you guys are getting bored with the desert terrain. The dessert terrain at one of the hotels in Vegas is pretty good...

 

One note: the trees in 2.0 are collidable, so you may need to adapt your flying style compared to 1.5

 

I mostly just fly the Ka-50.

Hello Andy. Thanks very much. Everything in the pit is scratch-built except for the heavily modified FLCS/TQS. I am close to redoing the instrument panel, overhead panel and rudders (which contain two parts from a set of CH Pedals - almost forgot!). I think I will add to the back panels so they go higher for lighting.

 

I forgot to add this, but I could not have made this work without a LOT of help from Ralph Robertson, who helped develop the Epic hardware cards I use. They were expensive, but I owned them for over twenty years now. I wish I was smart enough to write input/output code for it.

i'm playing again since a month now, and i must admit ME offers some nice advancements (and bugs, still) maybe i'll finish my 2 WIP campaigns now and start a big and nasty new one.

I don't have your cockpits JG, or BaD CrC, but i just got 2x 4K screens, with my other 2x 1200p, and bought a 5.1 (atm 4 large speakers in each corner) to play in surround with SPDIF. it's not a cockpit, but my room has dimensional sound now. it's very enjoyable

a custom one, my money is not infinite, my old big AKAI 3CD died during it's 20th year, so i invested in a Yamaha RX-v577 for the surround amplifier, and 2 Warfedale diamond 220. You can find speaker from 20 to 4000$ so when i saw those ones winning every reviews for just 200$... to that i added my old 3-way akai speakers, which still deliver great sound and basses.

 

so, basically i have at least a 4.4 home cinema system, with 2/3-way speakers.

 

The trickiest part is how to connect it to the PC with S/PDIF (which supports 44.1 to 196khz (96khz in 5.1 max though) and does not take magnetic fields behind the PC)

 

1 : either your're lucky and you bought a DTS connect / dolby digital live motherboard

2 : or you can buy a DTS supported discrete sound card

3 : or, like me, you have a ALC 1150 realtek on your MB. You just need to install custom driver and patch Direct3D Sound to enable most game with it. Very straightfoward. If you play another game like Arma 3, it's amazing to hear where the bullet comes from.

Yes, I have them both running now, but it takes a long time to get both synced with the pit. Almost ready to start learning again with the squad. I have to get TS running and fine tune my encoders in Helios.

Opps I forgot all about FB! In my older years I'm getting CRS! Tuesdays and Thursdays look like busy nights to fly, Tuesdays are just practice nights. Good for getting things tested and working. But any night can do just post at the BSD and we can get something going.
