I have heard a rumor that Eagle Dynamics is working on a mod to allow a stand alone handheld GPS to be used in the cockpit.

Six questions.

1. Is it true?

2. Will it be a fully functional or simplified?

3. Will it be a 3D model or a 2D display?

4. Can it be disabled at the server level?

5. Will all DCS level aircraft be able to use it or only "approved" airframes.

6. Will it be used in FC3 level aircraft?

I feel this would be a great addition to the sim. I do think it's use needs to be limited in a multiplayer environment to aircraft that could have actually used the technology during it's service life.

I need, I need, I need... What about my wants? QuickSilver original.

Any ideas of a release date? Will it be free or a for sale product?

I was just pondering this subject while walking the dog today. Haven't seen any news on this since it was revealed it was coming. My guess is it's just one of those things that will show up in one of the updates without much fan fare.

Just hope it wasn't/ won't get scrapped. I know I'd put it to use for sure.

ED has been working on many things, but with so much on their hands, priorities shift left and right all the time it seems. I wouldn't expect it anytime soon If I were You.

I'd love it to just show up, though I think if it's a Garmin it'll be a paid module.

Why? There have been Garmin units included with some FSX addons for years, at no extra charge.

USMC Trev I think you missed my point.

I am sure you are aware they are releasing a WW2 themed map and working on many WW2 air frames.

If I am running a WW2 themed server with period specific vehicles I would not want the pilots using GPS.

The first handheld GPS unit was not even released in the United States until the Magellan NAV 1000 in 1989.

Are you saying you want virtual pilots in a virtual WW2 setting having access to technology they should not even see for 44 years?

Obviously in an online mixed period airframe environment turning off GPS would be a bit silly.

Have you ever read the licensing fine print in FSX? All that was rolled into the price of the game.

Technically, everything is rolled into the price of the game, any game. Do you think the improvements to the Caucasus are actually free? Trust me, you are paying for them unless you never buy a new module.

I don't care about WWII.
Great, me either.

Don't use the GPS. Turn it off on your server. It's that simple.
Isn't that what I said?

You said "In a multiplayer environment". You didn't say "historically accurate multiplayer environment".
I thought you might have been able to figure that out for yourself.

Really? I never thought of that because I'm stupid. I've never managed personnel or schedules or budgets or training or programs. I just fly sims. I have no experience in the world beyond that, so your educational assistance in these matter is a real eye opener.

I buy most modules whether I want them or not to support the ongoing efforts of ED to redevelop existing products. I couldn't give a rat's fuzzy sphincter about the L-39 or the Dora, but I want the Hornet and new maps, AND THE THINGS I AND OTHERS WISH FOR IN THE WISHLIST SECTION (that you think are within your province to criticize), so I buck up.

Wow....... bit confrontational isn't he?
