Cmptohocah Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 While reviewing one of the tracks I came a cross this situation where an enemy a/c is locked with the radar set to ON together with EOS, but no launch permission was issued. The 'LA' (ПР) just keeps flashing. Please see the screenshot below: My question is: was I supposed to perform an action or was it just a case where there was a reason (not known to me) for the launch authorization not to be issued? Thanx in advance. Cmptohocah=CMPTOHOCAH
Cmptohocah Posted August 15, 2016 Author Posted August 15, 2016 Was it a friendly aircraft? It was definitely a hostile airplane. One bar in the radar return and also 'A' is displayed in the HUD. Cmptohocah=CMPTOHOCAH
Stuge Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Interesting, I don't know the reason. I've seen this happen in tailchases with matched speeds, but head-on?? I'm baffled :) http://www.104thphoenix.com
karambiatos Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Interesting, I don't know the reason. I've seen this happen in tailchases with matched speeds, but head-on?? I'm baffled :) hes below him quite a bit probably because of clutter, the missile has a chance of misstracking. A 1000 flights, a 1000 crashes, perfect record. =&arrFilter_pf[gameversion]=&arrFilter_pf[filelang]=&arrFilter_pf[aircraft]=&arrFilter_DATE_CREATE_1_DAYS_TO_BACK=&sort_by_order=TIMESTAMP_X_DESC"] Check out my random mods and things
razo+r Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Maybe the EOS doesn't see the heat from the plane? Maybe it is below the max angle for looking down of the EOS?
Stuge Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 EOS shouldn't have anything to do with this.. The ground clutter theory crossed my mind too. http://www.104thphoenix.com
holimoli Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 it's because u have a radar guided weapon selected but no radar lock 1 [100☭] holimoli #13, 100-й КИАП
Cmptohocah Posted August 15, 2016 Author Posted August 15, 2016 it's because u have a radar guided weapon selected but no radar lock Why is there no radar lock? Dist is around 32km, he/she is head on doing 1210km/h and flying at some 3km alt. I did def. not lock him with EOS. Thanks. Cmptohocah=CMPTOHOCAH
holimoli Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 most likey cuz u locked up the bandit in IRST/EOS. U can actually see it on the green lights. Top-right means: radar is on/or you are illumating 2nd one means: you have a radar lock , which you obviously don't have the another which is lit means : you have an IRST lock. On the top left your HUD says that you are in EOS and not radar. At the bottom of the hud it says that you are illuminating the target = IFF in this case. You have an ER selected which is a radar guided missile therefor the LA symbol flashes. You can hold down the fire button for 1-2 sec and the radar will turn on and launch the missile [100☭] holimoli #13, 100-й КИАП

Cmptohocah Posted August 15, 2016 Author Posted August 15, 2016 Thank you for the reply. Some things are still not clear thought: ... 2nd one means: you have a radar lock , which you obviously don't have the another which is lit means : you have an IRST lock. ... I was most certain that I have locked the target using the radar as I have identified it first in the radar search mode. If I have a IRST lock, why does the radar refuse to lock on? most likey cuz u locked up the bandit in IRST/EOS. U can actually see it on the green lights. .... You have an ER selected which is a radar guided missile therefor the LA symbol flashes. You can hold down the fire button for 1-2 sec and the radar will turn on and launch the missile Does this procedure actually work? Radar is already on, so I guess you meant it will lock on. First time I hear of this, but I guess one learns something new every day. Also, I had no idea that you can keep a lock with EOS and keep the radar in search mode. Cmptohocah=CMPTOHOCAH
holimoli Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) This is how it goes. It depends which sensor is used first for the lock. If it's radar then there will be a RL on the top left + the first two green lights will glow. You can then turn on your EO sensor and the top left indication will switch to EORL. If you then look at the panel you will see that still the first two lights are on. This means your Radar is the primary sensor and your EO acts as a backup for the contact in this case. Once you lose radar lock and the EO lock will remain. The radar will try to automatically reaquire the target. If you have an EORL lock and are in range you can turn off the radar. At this point the top left indication will display EO only and instead of the radar lock light the IRST lock light will be on.(5th light). At this point your are in EO mode only and with your Radar on/off button you toggle the IFF only. This means you won't give away any radar spikes anymore. They only way to switch from EO back to Radar is: Turn the radar on -> turn EO off. As long as there is no RL on the top left you are not giving away radar spikes. Only expection (and I think this is a bug) is if you switch to vertical scan mode and had your radar on before. This will give away a "lock on" spike once you lock the target. So if you switch to vertical always make sure your radar is off. Then lock the bandit and turn your "radar" ( in this case iff) on again. edit: And everytime you have somebody locked up in EO and try to shoot a Radar guided missile the LA will flash first. If you hold down the lock button then, the radar will switch on, aquire the target and shoot the missile. Edited August 15, 2016 by holimoli [100☭] holimoli #13, 100-й КИАП
kobac Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Try take down nose plane in that specific situation and see if it will stop flashing. It is possible that target fall/turn out of radar cone. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]Everything is possible ...
Cmptohocah Posted August 16, 2016 Author Posted August 16, 2016 This is how it goes... If you hold down the lock button then, the radar will switch on, aquire the target and shoot the missile. I just had a similar situation again last night and tried implementing your 'hold the fire button' procedure :joystick: - it worked! Thank you once more for the explanation - some poor guy got shot down because of you! Cmptohocah=CMPTOHOCAH

Thanx in advance. On this pic you don`t have radar ON, only EOS lock - so, no LA for R27-ER because radar is off and maybe target is out LA range or bad aspect. The 'LA' (ПР) just keeps flashing. Flashing because you select R27-ER and radar is turned OFF. But when target come closer (in range) you can launch that R27-ER without RADAR and NICE thing is that radar will be ON immediately. Test it... lock target with EOS, try to launch (you will see flashing), hold your LAUNCH/fire button and wait... missile is launched and RADAR is ON :smilewink: This is DCS - i don`t know how this work in RL.
