This is similar to what you want:

I get slightly better FPS with it on Ultra shadows, though I don't know if he limited them to cockpit only.

Thanks a lot

It seems like its the cookpit shadows that hit the fps most, so what O thought I could use aint any good......

Hmm, I tried these two files and see a 27% drop in FPS comparing to this single file: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2884624&postcount=10

I test using FRAPS average for 1 minute on the same reply track. I have Ultimate Shadows and No Tree Shadow mod...

Thats odd, but on the other hand, you should not use shadow settings over medium, with your PC.

Ah, sorry, you mean GTX 760 in my sig? Forgot to change. I bought another GTX 1080 (Gigabyte Xtreme Gaming Premium Pack) and testing it now. Will RMA, same as ASUS Strix two weeks ago, due to these problems:

I am having good FPS with Ultra Shadows and PD 2.0, but the card gets too hot when running below its advetrised specs - up to 88C in open case (( I think I'll wait and buy 1080ti on water...

You should never, use an open chase... The tower or chase is designed to build airflow, inside it. Close it again, and make sure you build overpressure inside the tower rather than underpressure...

I dont understand your need, for No Tree Shadow nor my tweak files, if you run a 1080 card, I think you are building a bottelneck somewhere. Those I know that bought the 1080 and uses Rift, have a smooth ride...

What are your ingame settings ?

Well, my (HT)PC is inside a niche in the wall under TV with plenty of space around and one big fan blowing air in (and onto the video card), and three smaller ones blowing hot air out. It is now very hot in Spain (+30 at home), so I opened the doors for hot air to escape.

I played a lot with the game specs and OC settings. No one here, as far as I know, can play DCS at max settings in VR with any hardware. I am getting smooth 45-90 FPS and nice visuals with the attached settings, 1928/10500 card clocks, 372.70 driver, DCS 1.5.4. stable, "VR Shadows" and "No tree shadows" mods. My Fire Storm score is 17200...

The MSAA is a big FPS killer, and I dont think it give you much in the Oculus..

Sorry, we seem to have mixed two threads, but the topic is roughly the same. I see not difference whatsoever in my tests whether MSAA in off or maxed out. 1080 chews up any objects you throw at it. The bottleneck is elsewhere, and the trick is to reduce the number of said objects. I also see no difference visually between Low and Medium visibility range, but the former gives me a couple more FPS. As for the trees distance maxed out - I hate it when they start appearing in front of my eyes.

When did the shadow settings change (since 1.2.14)?

As I remember it was so that you could choose shadows either outside or in cockpit, but not both....

I dont quiet understand what your try to explain...

But...You cant altrer, the shadows either inside or outside on its own, they are bound toghter... So what I am trying with these files, is to reduce the shadows outside, so we can keep the shadows inside the cookpit.

We have heard your request and we have implemented the option to disable all shadows outside of the cockpit. This will be released in a later update.

Thanks

Thats so cool, thanks a lot

That is great news Wags. Turning cockpit shadows back on will greatly aid immersion. If possible could we have the option to turn on the players aircraft shadow as well? It's really nice to have it on the ground for low level helicopter flight.

so, is that option working in the last release?

Good question! I have not really tested it myself but heard from others that it is not quite working as intended or at least shadows still have a big impact on FPS even with Terrain Shadows set off.

Any more/other opinions on this?

My first test in SU-25T Instant Mission Target Practice: I selected Terrain shadow off and set normal shadows to flat/low/mid. In all cases the ground shadows on the terrain where still there like before. No change. Someone stated that when choosing another mission it worked for them. But I guess in some mission when the there is not much of the sun and no cast shadows it could seem like the shadows are off.
