Spacehamster Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 (edited) The new engine sound is terrible. You just took a a flyby recording and cut it so it loops and used that as the engine sound. However no plane engine sounds like that up close. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NS-O6_gH-XA Listen to it at 1:50. And then for 15 seconds until it takes off. At 1:57 (when it moves away from the camera) it starts to sound like a deep howl. Because the doppler effect will cause the pitch of the sound to lower as it moves away. The engine sound remains crisp and of higher frequency when the plane is close and stationary. Edited September 21, 2016 by Spacehamster 1

Spacehamster Posted September 21, 2016 Author Posted September 21, 2016 The sound needs to be crisp and higher pitched up close. I can hear the doppler effect of it moving away from the recording source.
Dun_Aenghus Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 I think the new sounds are excellent, some of the best of any DCS module. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Rlaxoxo Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Thanks for the feedback and the Video it was really Awesome Due to the limitation of well DCS you can't really make anything other then a Loop that repeats for engine sounds. I'll play around try to simulate it closer to reality when I get the time [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Youtube Reddit
The Black Swan Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Please mr hamster..... These are the best in DCS right now. The sound engine that it would take to accurately sim sound and the Doppler effect is far, far away right now. I actually wish all jet engines in DCS had sounds similar to this... GeForce GTX 970, i5 4690K 3.5 GHz, 8 GB ram, Win 10, 1080p
Chrinik Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 What are you talking about "The sound engine that it would take to accurately sim sound and the Doppler effect is far, far away right now."...have you ever zoomed into or had a helicopter fly by in DCS? Their rotor blade sounds definately experience a frequency and pitch shift. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] GCI: "Control to SEAD: Enemy SAM site 190 for 30, cleared to engage" Striker: "Copy, say Altitude?" Tango777 Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 The engine shutdown sound is not correct. A jet engine does not go silent the moment you shut the fuel off. i7-13700F - 32GB DDR5 RAM - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060Ti 16GB - 2TB NVMe SSD - Windows 11
Rlaxoxo Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 The engine shutdown sound is not correct. A jet engine does not go silent the moment you shut the fuel off. Yup, Startup, Shutdown and overall 3d Sound positioning is still an issue and it's known Its just it much depends on ED to work with Razbam on this since it's their own Sound SDK that they work with and Razbam pretty much just say what they want done but it takes time : / [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Youtube Reddit
Fab Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 I think the sound on the M2k is great, beside the above wip, I would like the engine sound inside cookpit to be a bit louder... Dave317 Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 Is loud inside the cockpit at the minute I think due to wind noise. It's hard to hear anyone on teamspeak when flying at speed.
Rlaxoxo Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 Is loud inside the cockpit at the minute I think due to wind noise. It's hard to hear anyone on teamspeak when flying at speed. Mirage is using Default DCS Wind sound and it's really loud, it would be best for Mirage to have it's own definition for Wind sound so it can be tweaked [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Youtube Reddit
RAZBAM_ELMO Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 Turn the master volume down or turn ts up. Sent from my SM-G900W8 using Tapatalk Know and use all the capabilities in your airplane. Dave317 Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 I can't turn ts up anymore. Is there a file for the wind I can adjust. I'm not fussed if it affects all modules as I only really use this one at the moment.
hellking Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 I really enjoy the M2000 sounds, especially after the start up. During the start up it is not programmed to what is going on in the cockpit, so it sounds like pre-recorded and out of place. After ED programs it properly it will be the best.
Rlaxoxo Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 (edited) Any idea how to tweak it down a bit? Every sound or Texture in DCS can be changed it's just a matter of finding the file. To lower the Wind volume follow the Path: \DCS World\Sounds\sdef\Aircrafts Open the following 2 files with Notepad: - PlaneWindInL - PlaneFurWindInL (Cockpit Wind noise) You don't have to edit the other "PlaneFurWindInR" since it inherits what you change from the first file Change the volume by changing for example: gain = 0.6 To something like: gain = 0.25 Or any number you desire play around with it and see what you like Edited September 23, 2016 by Rlaxoxo 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Youtube Reddit
Dave317 Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 Perfect thanks. I've dropped it down to 0.2 and it's much better for me.
Kev2go Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 it may be a loop but right now imho still think m2000c is the sexiest sounding fighter jet in dcs I love the new sounds. Theskyline35 Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 I also think the actual sound is very good, compare to all other jet module, the Mirage is really good (the AfterBurner sound is very nice for instance), however I still think it can be better, as the OP said for the fly by sound which isn't really nice compare to a real fighter... But I'm also sure the DCS sound engine is really limited, and that Rlaxoxo is doing his best with the tools available.
