I could not wait to post here about my home made cyclic flying experience.

I will post in the input/output forum all the details in the coming days.

First off, The height of my Warthog, from top of base to top of stick is about 12 inches. This with a short home made extension.

The height of the cyclic is 30 inches. It currently is using pots for the axes.

So, I took my first flight in VR, using the cyclic in the Gazelle tonight.

I set the joystick to 100% saturation and 0 curve. 2-3% dead zone.

Took off from runway and tried to hover in a 10 foot box just off the ground.

Now, I always had trouble with this in the Gazelle, (much less so in other helicopters)

Tonight, after getting used to the different "feel" of the controls, It is like flying a whole new Gazelle!

I can hover so much easier, change from forward flight to hover easier and landing has become fun not Terrifying!:D

Tried all sorts of take off and landings and didn't break the helicopter once!:music_whistling:

The difference is amazing!

Flew the Huey and could hover almost too easy. WOW.

I will post pics and a breakdown of how I made the cyclic soon. Still have a few issues to work out.

I made it real inexpensive. Almost the best part!

Also have a collective 75% built. Coming soon.

Any one else flying with "real" controls?

Thoughts?

Suggestions?

Stay tuned.....

why 3% deadzone?
Only to remove any pot issue.

I am using the base of a Thrustmaster pro flight control system. Must be 20 years old!

(I knew I kept it for some reason!)

I plan on updating to hall sensors in the future.

I use a 15cm extension on my warthog stick with the spring mod and a home made collective using an old X52 throttle unit and an aluminium walking stick

My flying in the gazelle went from passable to good immediately, I barely move the stick in flight the difference is chalk and cheese from stock stick to extension:)

Great job!

Mine does not look as nice, but works perfectly.

I agree, the difference is striking!

It's like I just finished 30 hours of flight training overnight!

While I slept!:D

Good stuff!

What with the extension is night and day ye but the throw is just way to big, had to set mine to 60% sat to get close to the in game one. It's actually not a bad thing to have a tiny dead zone on this one as the autopilot will right itself and fly level when you keep it centered. I had a lot of trouble with this on my ffb2 mod with no dz whatsoever (pots connected to Bodnar board) so I fly with a 31cm extension on the warthog for this one. Feels much better

I read a post from a real Gazelle pilot (Rotorhead11)

who stated that he uses two fingers on the cyclic to control the helicopter.

He makes very small movements.

Says he flew the same way in the real Gazelle.

With the full height cyclic I find the same.

I can never go back to the short Warthog stick!

Thanks for posting

What is the spring mod for the warthog Cibit? This is something I have thought about for a while.

My next project is attached below. A Lynx collective with A-frame, I cannot wait to get a proper collective.
