£94.81 is, at least for me, marginally more than a “chunk of change” on top of the product price.

Having just got off the phone to both EMS and Customs Office, after absolutely no help or info from the former, Customs are telling me that the price is for ‘temporary storage’ and will rise even higher ... and I only found out this morning that it was being held in the first place.

By my calculations, the initial £43.50 seems to be your VAT and should be appropriate. The extra £53.31 seems wrong and ridiculous for "storage." According to your tracking, how many days have they "stored" it for you?

But to blame Andre because he didn't put "gift" on it is unfair. That opens up both you and him to multiple problems and is technically illegal.

I’m not blaming the seller in the slightest. Yes l shouldn’t have said about the gift thing as I have no real understanding of how this customs thing works. I paid for the product and paid an extra £43 for what I was told was shipping.

I know I’m supposed to quote ‘gift’ whenever I export from eBay but that’s probably different I guess and down to my ignorance but I certainly wasn’t expecting another entity wanting another £53.31. £100 extra for a £190 product to me is ridiculous but I’m certainly not laying any blame with the dealer ... I’m just wanting to warn other potential UK customers.

I believe the £43.50 is postage and the £53.31 the VAT and import costs.

I recall the customs cost was about £12 so that would seem right as VAT would be about £40.

I am not suggesting it is trivial but the postage would be known from the outset and it should be expected to pay VAT and import costs when ordering outside of the EU.

Unfortunately it rather comes with the territory of specialist enthusiasts products that don't have local resellers. You won't avoid the VAT even then so it will never be a £190 product.

I’ve bought all sorts of weird and wonderful flight sim things from the continent from small specialist sellers but I’ve not once paid anything other than the price of the product and shipping so this is completely new to me.

All I’m wanting to do is to warn fellow UK customers as I’m sure I’m not the only person ignorant to this and not alone in thinking that £94.81 on top of the product is a hefty sum.

This is nothing to do with what is clearly a great product from obviously a friendly and accommodating seller, a product I dearly wanted to have a company my VR setup.

I guess I didn’t think or expect any such surcharges beyond what I’d already paid.

I guess you must have been lucky as I have been charged for stuff from the US, Japan and now Russia.

Not wishing to dwell on this but the shipping was a known quantity when you ordered, the extra is the VAT and import charges. If you walked into Currys and came out with a shiny new Jetseat you would still have paid the £40 or so VAT you just wouldn't have thought about it!

It is a good heads up though to make people aware of the costs of importing.

So without being too personal, your jet seat, as a UK customer, including shipping, cost you on or around £281.30 and not £185?

I’m not sure whether I considered myself lucky or not. I just assumed, as I’ve always experienced, that the price I paid along with it’s shipping price, at the time it left the seller, was the end price. I’m feeling very ignorant in my knowledge of overseas buying all of W sudden.

That sounds about right but it is what I was expecting. I never saw it as a £185 product as I knew I would have to pay VAT, customs and get it shipped from Russia to the UK which was never going to be cheap. In all of my imports the customs bill has come after it has arrived so there is always a sense of thinking it might not come! It usually does though...

Apologies. The combination of Simshaker for Aviators and Andre's Jetseat is pretty awesome though!

It works already, you just need to download the MSFS SDK (go into developer mode, then help, download sdk)

I am sure it will need some tuning but the basics certainly all seem to be functioning.

Thanks for the quick reply......but.....

I have no idea what you mean.

I tried to find a way to "go into developer mode" but cannot seem to find a way.

Any chance of a tutorial of sorts?

thanks again

Turn on developer mode under options, general, developer and you get a menu at the top of the screen. It didn't line up very well with my mouse but that could be my resolution. Under Help you should see see a menu with an option to download the SDK.

Install it and simconnect will be installed and in SSA under Special Options with MSFS running the status should turn to a green Y. It should now be working when you hit the button to fly.

Thanks again. I found the developer option. Then downloaded the SDK installer. Then closed MSFS and simshaker app. Then I ran the installer. After that , I launched MSFS2020, and then Simshaker.

On the special services tab , I still get red x.

Is there a step that I am Missing.

I tried launching simshaker first then MSFS but no joy.

I did everything you did although prior to downloading the SDK I did try installing simconnect as I hadn't used it before. So I downloaded it from here:

http://www.fspassengers.com/?action=simconnect

I installed all 3 components and it didn't work but then I downloaded and installed the SDK as you did and I got a green y and it was good to go. No idea if this makes a difference but it was the only thing I can think of that I did differently.

Maybe some FSX simconnect SSA expert can chip in as this is all new to me but it is working for me.

Didn't see an answer yet, but I'm assuming there's no event for AAR probe connection to export to simshaker?

I'm not sure how/where I could get the data to model such thing. DCS does not export this ...

I believe how Andre does it for the other sim is the connection light with a WoW check since in the Viper that light is also NWS active light. Off the top of my head, this method would work for the F-16 and A-10 at least in DCS if the light data is available in the .lua

In theory it may also be done with a positive delta fuel quantity, but I'm not sure how much of a lag there is in connection and flow. I know there is in how the boomer calls it in DCS. But this method could work for aircraft that don't have the light. I'll try to look on a AAR tonight (or a track of it) to see how long it takes the fuel to go positive. On the other hand, I don't know if it is realistic to feel that much when you connect on a basket.

When we asked for it from Andre, we also confirmed that real life pilots can feel the tanker boom connect. The other sim if I remember correctly doesn't have a boomer "connected" call like DCS (or at least didn't back then) so it was sometimes really hard to tell exactly when you got connected sometimes if you weren't looking at the light. I think I can find that thread if you are curious. I know when I transitioned to DCS and SSA I remember checking that the refueling effect was turned up thinking it was that and realized that it was the door/probe moving, not the actual connection.

Overall, not a deal breaker that it doesn't happen. If you can get to it someday and it works in DCS, great!

AV8B has a light too. F-18 and F-14 don't, not sure about the M-2000. The tankers do call out 'contact' when you're connected however, not sure if comm events are exported?

Good point about exporting the "contact" call, I generally think of flight data type stuff being available only. That may be the best option if available.

I know the F-14 and F/A-18 don't have lights but I also don't know if you actually feel the connection with probe+drogue since it is not rigid and you have to physically push it forward to get it to flow in real life. Plus in those aircraft and the M2000 the drogue is solidly in your peripheral vision. The AV8B is one of those that is pretty far back almost at your shoulder so it would make since it has a light. F-15 doesn't seem to have a light, even then being FC3 it may not light up.
