piipu Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 I'm a bit confused on the Gazelle having functional online multiplayer multicrew. Some people said they do it but the feature list says it doesn't work yet. I'd like clarification before I go and buy the thing. Can you have two players on one Gazelle, one operating the missiles and the other piloting? If yes, do both players need to own the Gazelle or just one?
Ramsay Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 (edited) Gazelle multi-crew works well but is still wip. The SP campaign can be played as multi-crew with one player as pilot, the other as commander/weapons officer. To use multi-crew both players need to own the Gazelle module. IMHO the main unresolved issue from a game play perspective would be the load out desync if you attempt to rearm/refuel a multi-crew Gazelle i.e. the commander can see an engine shut down, fuel run out, alarms, etc. while the Gazelle keeps flying and the pilot/host sees a normal status. Although there are quite a few issues still to be resolved i.e. ADF, radios, etc. - I already find multi-crew in the Gazelle far more useful than that of the L-39. YMMV Edited October 4, 2016 by Ramsay Add some detail about current WIP issues i9 9900K @4.8GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 11 Pro x64, Odyssey G93SC 5120X1440
piipu Posted October 4, 2016 Author Posted October 4, 2016 All right, thanks for the quick reply. I might want to hold back for a little while then, those desync issues sound pretty annoying.
Ramsay Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 (edited) ... those desync issues sound pretty annoying. They're not really, as long as you accept the need to respawn, rather than rearm/refuel at a FARP whilst using multi-crew. DCS 'multi-crew' features are developing tech and similar issues can be found in the L-39. Normal SP/MP rearming, ADF, etc. works just fine, so you always have the option of flying as a regular 2 ship flight in MP. Note: There *may* be work arounds for cockpit desyncs, perhaps by the commander leaving and rejoining ? It's just not something we've focused on during multi-crew sessions as we learn to use the Gazelle effectively. dimitriov Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Hi, only the commander (copilot) needs to go back to spectators while the pilot asks for refuel and rearm. Once both are done, the copilot can come back in the helicopter. No need for a full respawn. 1
Whisper Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 All right, thanks for the quick reply. I might want to hold back for a little while then, those desync issues sound pretty annoying. Module is in beta. Buy only if you accept the beta state and help in development. That means coping with bugs and sometimes non functionnal features. If you want something functionnal & finished, I'd urge to postpone your buy. Whisper of old OFP & C6 forums, now Kalbuth. Specs : i7 6700K / MSI 1070 / 32G RAM / SSD / Rift S / Virpil MongooseT50 / Virpil T50 CM2 Throttle / MFG Crosswind. All but Viggen, Yak52 & F16
Mt5_Roie Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Desyncs are a pain. Were working on trying to reduce them to a usable state. Since helicopter is new territory in DCS world, thing are going a bit slow. Also keep in mind that testing multi-crew is a lot more time consuming as well. But it is working and you can still have tons of fun with it. Coder - Oculus Rift Guy - Court Jester
WolfK33 Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 I did a couple of flights with my best buddy, and I can tell you, the Gazelle is already a ton of fun. Yes, there are problems from time to time but it´s very well usable. I´m glad that I bought it, you should give it a look. Only thing I´m wishing for right now is that the left seater could work the Nadir, as that´s a hassle sometimes, reaching for the mouse while flying, and that the left seater could pilot it without those input delays.
Mt5_Roie Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 The goal is that each person will be able to do everything. I agree that taking the work load off the pilot would be ideal. WolfK33 Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Sounds good ! Funny, for me it was with the Gazelle as with the MiG21 by Leatherneck: I am/was never very much interested in the real bird but got it to support you devs while waiting for the Tomcat / the Bo105. As soon as I had it I´m not really flying anything else anymore ;-)
AldoUSMC Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 (edited) USMCHoot and I flew a couple MP sorties in Gazelle on the 104th Phoenix public server and also some range practice on The Fighting Panda's Server this weekend. I was able (as the pilot) to rearm with 4 HOT 3 missiles multiple times .... no problem.... on both servers..without my copilot (human) having to exit etc.... that's at least one data point for your consideration.... As an Aside.. my Copilot/wpns officer sets and manipulates the radios on the center panel as needed and I control the NADIR, RWR, and countermeasures. It is a WIP challenge right now that he cannot see the kneeboard mission waypoints in a MP mission. We find it useful for him to jump to F10 map to check lat/longs etc kinda like looking at a map in his lap or a tablet-based map while I'm flying to assist in visual nav when he's not scanning for threats or heads down in the Weapons TV.
