doublebumfun Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 I am a volunteer gaming journalist for a website that reviews and previews video games. Basically another one of the many ign.com's out there. I am always looking for new games to preview, especially obsecure ones like black shark, its free advertising for you and gets the word out about your game. Does Eagle Dynamic have a press relations person or just anyone I can get in touch with to get a beta build or a full version copy of the game for review? Because we are nonprofit we generally work on getting games donated to us, of course thats not always possible for a lot of publishers/developers. We usually get one or two copies of games from the big guys, which is to be expected, but never the small ones, who need it the most. anywho I am just looking for someone who works at Eagle Dynamics that I can get in touch with personally. Thank you for your time.
leafer Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Me too!!!!! I'm with the umm... ehh... Well, just sent me a copy, huh. :D ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
Disso Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 heh...any proof to back up any of this? What site are you from, wouldn't you like to get word out about your gaming site as well? ;) Anyway, if you're for real, I really hope ED takes up any opportunity to get their name and game out; they never spent much time, money, or effort in the promotional department.. Toady Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 How can you take someone called 'Doublebumfun' seriously as a games journalist? Normally the best way would be to contact the developer via email. Read to bother hands their on time much too with people only that bit little the.
Dmut Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 doublebumfun, nice try ;) "There are five dangerous faults which may affect a general: recklessness, which leads to destruction; cowardice, which leads to capture; a hasty temper, which can be provoked by insults; a delicacy of honor which is sensitive to shame; over-solicitude for his men, which exposes him to worry and trouble." doublebumfun Posted October 10, 2006 Author Posted October 10, 2006 How can you take someone called 'Doublebumfun' seriously as a games journalist? Normally the best way would be to contact the developer via email. Ooh come on its not that bad :P I've tried e-mail and so far havent gotten a response. I'm just a writer, so I would simply give them the e-mail address of the director of the site, assuming I can get ED's attention first. Of course you are right its not enough to just say "I work for a gaming website give me copies!" I'm sure ED knows the process for staying in touch with the gaming sites, and they are the ones i'm after. [edit] haha i am so blind, their publisher (although its for their russian publisher) has a PR & marketing contact, so that will hopefully lead me in the right direction. heh...any proof to back up any of this? It'll just start a lot of drama and trolling if I give out who I am working for. If ED wants proof and is willing to talk with me then i'll give them what they privately. I wish they would respond to my e-mails, but they havent. Everyone else for the website I work with is volunteer, we arent professional, loaded with lawyers, or anything like that. I'm just going out of my way on my own time to get something done. Check i'm not even a true journalist. My degree in college is for mechanical drafting, i'm working on getting a job at Boeing, I want to do something in Aerospace. Samething for everyone else, all volunteers doing game writing on their own time because they enjoy it. Most gaming websites are like this except for a few big ones like ign, gamespy and gamespot.

The main issue? Nobody knows you. I had to fight and beg when I did my work for ED back in the day. So while I regretfully dropped out of testing (due to laziness and well okay, a year in Iraq as well, as well as moving to other things). So that's what you have to realize. Can't say that you can't get it, it's just an uphill struggle that takes time to establish. But the point is that you have to establish yourself first, not just expect ED to release a build to you when they can release it to people they already know and trust. I know this myself since I have just recently gotten back into the flow of things, so while I may have a better chance admittedly getting a build, I'm not really thinking of that as I'm balancing other projects at the moment. And no, don't PM me trying to get a leg in, I still think the NDA I signed years ago is still in effect, so I know narthing ;) Not to say you're just trying to get the new cool toys before everybody else for your enjoyment, an established reputation helps, so it may be a while, or if ED actually thinks you're worthy, then you'll be good to go. Thank you very much for giving your experience with working with ED atleast. This is the only worth while reply in my thread so far. I did get ahold of one of the guys at ED and he said he passed my message onto their PR manager so we will see. I imagine they will want the contact info of my sites director, the guy that handles everything. I'm just a writer, I wouldnt expect them to do it for me. But what I wanted is to talk to the PR manager, give him a bit of infomation about the gaming site I work with and try to build that relationship and trust. Like you basically said, its all about trust.
