Opinion time: What aircraft has the best control set up?

In your humble opinion which aircraft has the best controls, best looking best working, best feeling. It's all good. I think the F-16 takes the cake, non-moving pressure sensitive stick, and the best looking throttle out there. It also has a really cool Off-Mil power-burner detent system.

A-10C - It has the same Stick as the F-16 (although in classic moving configuration), but I prefer the throttle setup over the F-16 throttle.

DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

Some of the newer models are probably better still. Gripen? Rafale? In DCS the Mirage is a lot easier to fight in than any of the others for a start. The FC3 aircraft are super simple but they've been simplified a bit.

I think Braeden108 is talking about real life, not the game. Or do you have seen a playable F-16 in DCS? ;)

You're right of course, there is no Gripen or Rafale ingame as well. The FC3 part got me distracted :music_whistling:

My favorite is the F-15, albeit more because of what's under the stick.

The control system is an amazing piece of engineering as it doesn't have anything digital, it's all analog or hydromechanical.

Despite being totally analog it still auto trims, coordinates, and limits lateral control when necessary. The only thing it lacks compared to modern FBW is a true G limit system (12G is grounds for an inspection IRL) In fact, I much prefer the snappy, instant control response you get from an analog control system over the dampened response you get from FBW.

Worth noting that the control system in the F-15 is surprisingly well modeled in DCS. No discernible differences between real documentation + pilot reports vs the simulator.

DCS modules are built up to a spec, not down to a schedule.

In order to utilize a system to your advantage, you must know how it works.

I am amazed the F-15 is analogue. I hear there are things called hydraulic computers. Does the f-15 use one? Explains the lack of autopilot.

I personally find the g limited to be one of the more valuable parts of the M2000's fbw system, because when I need I can jam the stick all the way back and the plane will hold its self at the edge of its envelope. Granted letting the plane fly itself in sim is a little less awesome but if I found myself strapped into a jet facing down a guy who was trying to kill me like I shat in his Cheerios... I'd take fbw.

Hell, I'd accept talk about good controls on a tractor, Or the best joysticks. Which I'd say is a custom cougar set up with 12 bit hall effect axies, and a 14-18 inch extension.I just like human interface devices. You could say I'm a control freak.

IMHO the A-10C, F-16 and the Super Hornet have the best cockpits, the position of the switches, MFCDs and etc

Not sure if it's because I'm used to it, but for example the A-10C, the cockpit itself is awesome, the most important gauges, intruments etc are very easy to access and see, you can see pretty much everything without having to move the head.

F-16 by far, fits like a glove!

Indeed there is such a thing- in fact there may be one in your car, assuming that you have a car with a traditional automatic transmission (that is a kind with a torque converter). Most older automatic transmissions have a hydromechanical computer that decides when to switch to the next gear based on engine RPM, throttle position and speed.

The 35 HOTAS has so many buttons. And the stick is a bit fat at the top. But the throttle is comfy and I a good location. Best part is there are very few switches in the pit of that thing. Makes engine runs seem just a bit too easy. I always feel like I'm forgetting something.
