It's awesome and we will get her into the game for everyone to share very soon or in two more weeks or whatever the teminology is, aiming to beat the Viggen to the post. I'm hoping lods wont be too hard we are on schedule for poly count (despite the fact we are only just getting to the detailing and Mithadra has a fetish for it), but we are less than half of the lovely Slava cruiser ED put in at 302K count. Damage modelling I know nothing about yet, but I guess we can damage objects and refer to them by group, will see. Textures are annoying. Weapons I've done before so shouldnt be too hard and animations, there's only two moving parts and one ive never seen which is the rotating radar on the top and possibly a second underneath it that ive never seen move.

 

Down the line if we ever get controllable ships or the ability to load cargo or to beach, I'd love to do this, other than that, just aiming for a decent target for the Viggen.

Textures to come, we added one to the hull just to test because Mithandra uses Maya to model and needed to test the export from that to Max , recreate the materials and their mappings and then into EDM, so the workflow was somewhat convoluted and we had to test it worked. In game textures need work because we have no speculars so the grey seems to turn purple, but it's resolvable with application of head to desk as everything else has been!!!

Right, so, wouldn't mind some pointers here. Have been reading about how the textures are affected by Specular maps and each colour channel affects things like reflectivity, but am pretty confused over all. This is a learning experience and always meant to be that, the only thing that we had is a great modeller, Mithandra, the rest we were discovering as we went. So if I only use the diffuse map in a 3DS material, you get a much darker and glossier effect on the colour when the model arrives in DCS. I read https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=88855 and albeit I somewhat understand this, I tried adding a DDS that looked pretty green in colour and tried adding it to the reflectivity, specular colour and levels in the material. The resulting changes only affected reflection, but the colour remains much more purple as per the screenshot comparisons of whats in 3DS and what is in game. As far as Model goes, she's very close, some details to do and I'm really impressed with what Mithandra achieved, albeit, I woudl say to beginners, theres a helluva a lot of work to get this done and it was surprisingly hard work.

So we are tools down on features now, instead heading to adjust textures this morning. We might do some variations in model when we get to doing the LODs. There's a destruction model, which we aren't sure about and animating the radar which shouldnt be too hard, then the weapon connectors and collision model. The time it took Mithandra was since the 8th, with a fair amount of hours put in, so its a useful stat for projecting perhaps a larger plan. :)

Hi all,

 

I have had to installed Max 2014 onto my system to be able to export the EDM. I have a major issue in that if i bring up the material editor (not the compact one, that works ok)

 

When i move the mouse over stuff in the windows, its duplicating and i cannot click anything, like its artifacting.

 

Any suggestion would be appreciated

Wee update. We finally got textures to show normally and have added some detail. That was some days T/S I tell you. All down to the specular maps. We spent tonight on getting the radars to rotate, and ended up with a rotating radar, funnily enough. Tomorrow I'm pulling the weapons apart for the Lua. Still haven't added the collision shell but thats 5 mins work. The LODS should be easier than the destruction model. We may tweak the model, theres some things needing a tweak but didn't want to spend too long at it. Basically its looking great and we are positive!

Bit of an update,

 

Managed to get the textures sorted which was a great achievement :)

 

I did the animation for the ship, that was a mission and a half to work that out since I am a Maya user and not a max user :)

 

I am just currently working on everyone's favorite, UV unwrapping :)

 

here is the picture update so far :)

 

I am also in the process of weathering the ship. Just finished texturing and detailing the life rafts
