VagTech Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 This may be a dumb question, but If I have the steam version of the game and my buddy has standalone are we able to play together?
grunf Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 This may be a dumb question, but If I have the steam version of the game and my buddy has standalone are we able to play together? Yes, doesn't matter if it's a steam or standalone.
Beeroshima Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 This may be a dumb question, but If I have the steam version of the game and my buddy has standalone are we able to play together? If you have the steam version, do yourself a favor and just get the standalone now. /end thread. All of your modules will carry over to stand alone, but stand alone doesn't carry over to steam. Pretty much makes the decision for you right there.
viperdogsnake Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 Honestlly, I have zero idea why people use DCS on Steam with all the benefits of standalone not to mention more support to the devs Why would you deprive yourself of half the sims content? on
Mars Exulte Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 Standalone. If you use Steam you can only use modules from Steam and take advantage of Steam sales. Use standalone and you do all that + sales on the site. Recently I bought some stuff off the site that was on sale, then a few weeks later got a Steam sale. Double fun ) Steam modules work with standalone, but not vice versa. Get. Standalone. All there is to it. As Shia LeBouf would say, JUST DO IT. "with all the benefits of standalone" what are those benefits?
BodyOrgan Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 (edited) If you're a user who has bought the Mirage 2000 or the Nevada map via Steam DO NOT buy any modules STANDALONE unless you intend to buy the Mirage 2000/Nevada map again. Since the release of the Mirage 2000 any module on Steam uses Steam keys, and not the Starforce keys the STANDALONE version uses thus you cannot transfer your modules to the STANDALONE version. If you have yet to buy the Mirage 2000 or the Nevada map, and only own modules released before the Mirage 2000, then you still have the option of converting to STANDALONE without having to re-buy your current modules. Choose wisely! Each version is multiplayer compatible, but their storefronts are not. Edited August 30, 2017 by BodyOrgan
