My PC is just over 3 years old and at the time of buying it, it was far from a high-end machine.

  • i7-3770K (3.5GHz)
  • GTX 680
  • 8GB RAM
  • 1TB SSD

Last weekend I got the Oculus Rift with the intention of trying it on this system with low expectations and then upgrading my gfx card next month to a GTX 1070. When I set it up I jumped straight into DCS and dropped myself into the cockpit of the A-10C. I was blown away! "Dad stop swearing!" my daughter shouted as I was trying to describe the sensation of actually being there.

And that's the point I was sitting inside something I was so familiar with. I know this cockpit but I had never sat there inside it. I could look around and see the detail that went into every switch and knob. Everything is huge. I had no idea how big these planes were or how big in scale the cockpit was. Taxing out I had the canopy open and felt the urge to put my arm on the side to rest, but of course it is not there.

Flying, I was breath taken and I really mean that in the physical sense. I was saying out loud "WOW!" "WOW!" "WOW!"

I had toned down the settings and had the pixel slider set at 1 but it still looks good. It looks awesome. I do get times where I get motion sickness from a low fps but most of the time it is fine and it gets better the more you do it. You adjust to it and I feel ok now after a week.

I can't wait to get the new gfx card. This really is a game changer for me. This is a bigger leap than Track IR and I won't fly these wonderful modules in any other way.

I would recommend you to get also more RAM and install Windows 10 so you can use ASW.

I've pretty much got the same setup as you.

You can bump up the pixel slider if you want, I usually have it at 1.5 or 1.8

Most settings set pretty high. If I were you I would maybe look into a new cpu.

A lot of times in DCS the cpu make more of a difference than the video card and our 3770K's are getting on in age. It does fine though. I'm thinking of waiting until the next generation of VR headsets come out and then probably upgrade the cpu and video card. The GTX 680 and 3770K is fine for the Rift. I've played on my brothers PC who has a much better cpu and video card and I barely see a difference if at all.

As the poster above said. You could use more RAM and definitely Win 10 if you don't have it.

Cheers you are both right. It was either wait for a new system or get my grubby hands on VR now. I couldn't wait, I had to try it. Due to funds and a family that will kick my head in if I spend anymore money I went for the VR and a cheapish upgrade. Now I save hard for a new rig.

Whilst your sitting in the A-10 poke your head out the side and have a look back at the rear of the plane.

BTW VR is awesome isn't it. :)

Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment.

Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above.

Currently rolling with a Asus Z390 Prime, 9600K, 32GB RAM, SSD, 2080Ti and Windows 10Pro, Rift CV1. bu0836x and Scratch Built Pedals, Collective and Cyclic.

Hi Mule nice to see you still simming :) If you can OC your CPU a wee bit it will help. More ram and at least a 970GTX will be biggest benefits:thumbup:

And yet here I am struggling to get smooth gameplay with a high end machine. Some times these things just baffle me!

Win 10x64, 16gb RAM, i7-4770k, 980ti

I have pretty much every single setting set to the lowest possible, except textures which I have at high so I can actually be able to read the cockpit labels. But textures shouldn't affect framerate as long as they fit in the vram and they easily do.

Intel i7-4770k @ 4.4ghz, 32gb ram, GTX 1080ti, Oculus Rift S

Advanced apologies if my post contains typos or missing letters. Many of my posts are typed on a laptop with an old keyboard that has a personality all its own.

Hey agathorn! I don't know what to say. I could send you the settings I have but if you have already toned it down etc not much point. I did go into the gfx config and turn down structures from 14000 to 10000. I have my vis range on medium. I've got the pixel slider set on 1.2. It's smooth as silk. In some modules, the dials are bit blurry and the ones I can see are not ezctly crisp but workable.

I went from flying with bad motion sickness to no problem at all in just a day or two.
