Well those who said you have to try it only once to know...where absolutely correct. It really is amazing. Now I'm just tweaking a bit to keep it around 90fps.

Quit to desktop and re-launch is the only way I can get back to a new flight or get into the options window. If I press any other option the window buttons don't respond. How do you end a flight and go back to fly again without having go to go to desktop first?

Thank you.

I can see the quit button when I select that option, it's there but the quit button does not respond just like the fly again button option is also not responsive. My only option is to quit to desktop and start again.

So to be clear, when you hit esc, you see the menu option. As you mouse over the menu, the only one that lets you click it is "Quit to desktop" any other option, including the "Quit" right above quit to desktop does not seem to register the mouse click but the white dot cursor is there and moveable?

You may have to move your task bar to the side or go to full screen (ALT-ENTER).

Thanks Scooternutz; I tried doing both what you suggested and both did the job but I was able to leave my taskbar alone and just do ALT-ENTER. I thought checking off the in game option to use full screen was enough but what then is ALT-ENTER?

  1. Also now that I'm flying 3D I see all the trees look flat, what's that all about?
  2. Is there a way to adjust the Oculus image the way you would your desktop with either settings in Oculus and/or the Nvidia card settings to make it brighter for example?
  3. I notice that I was getting FPS mostly either 90 or 45 FPS then I enabled V-sync and it mainly holds now at 90
  4. I've tweaked both Nvidia and DCS graphic settings...that's a work in progress.
  5. Is there a setting to lower the HUD. I like sitting a bit higher so I can see out better but I lose the top of the HUD.

To get true full screen you have to do the ALT-ENTER. No idea why it is currently this way - it has been this way since the initial 1.5 launch. But yes it does solve all of those not being able to click certain things issues.

That is Oculus ASW, to increase the visual appearance when framerates drop below 90 fps. It will then run at 45 fps kind of blending everything in at 45 fps to give a smooth experience.

To your first point, do I have to enable both the full screen option in game and then hit ALT-LAUNCH once the sim has loaded?

I like most have tested different graphic options to find that optimal setting between performance and picture quality. What I have found is that picture quality will max out with a minimal of graphic settings compared to my screens which with every option you can see a difference. As discussed, we are buying into the 3D immersion experience and with that performance is the focus first...

No, it matters not what you have set in the GUI - pressing ALT+ENTER will enable true dedicated full screen.

That has been pretty much my findings as well, at a certain point any graphical option increased you just can not tell any difference in what you see.

I end task on the 2 files running in process and have created shortcuts for them to turn them back on...works well.

CORRECTION: It turns off well and allows for screen play but I haven't found the turn on file/files.

Turn off Oculus:

End task for OVR service launcher and OVRService_x64.exe

Turn on Oculus:

Make a shortcut for C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-client.

If you want a really amazing VR experience get into the black shark helicopter. Its easily my favorite DCS module but in VR its just incredible. Its armed to the teeth but helicopters are so low to the ground and dangerous that in VR its a real thrill!

If you have not tried it get off your seat and walk till you are outside the aircraft, they are all from the outside as well as the inside a work of art, if in multiplayer and the airbase is busy I get out and just watch them taxi and take off and do flybys, what's my favourite cockpit ? they all are, and as far as the non click pits? I'm sure( just spitballing) that DCS are well aware how good those aircraft look, in VR and ? ;)

You are so right...I like doing the F2 or F3 and watch the fly-by or F4 looking at the back end of the Mig or F-15, you would swear you were looking at a real aircraft.

It's not just the aircrafts that look so great, what I don't understand is how come the aircrafts handle so much better. For example, I used to have problems with the F-15 take-off & landings, nose wheel swerving all over, now it's much more controllable as well as all aspects of flight and flying formation.

It's because you are now flying the aircraft like a pilot, with the same viewpoint, visual cues and depth perception. You can't replicate that on a flat screen.

Depth perception is key. If this were not critically important, for so many things, evolution would not have made sure that most every animal came with binocular vision.

The Huey and Mi-8 are just as amazing.

I still haven't re-configured my controls or flown a single combat mission other than a couple of instant action dogfight missions in DCS since getting a Vive a couple weeks ago. I just can't pull myself away from flying to take the time to get everything setup.
