FalconPlot16 Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 when i try gunrun some tanks or apcs they always giving me further damage with their machine gun they just like AAA so only safe thing is firing agm65 on em or using bombs but i want to takeout tanks with brrrt i cant even get close they firing from 1.5-2.0 miles which is gau 8's effective range please give me advice
Sryan Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Don't be the only target to shoot at. APCs don't have thick armor. the PGU-14 can penetrate it from further than 2 miles. Don't present yourself as a target until you're ready to shoot. The tanks will have a shorter time getting weapons to bear if you do a pop-up rather than a long dive towards the target. This will also reduce the angle of incidence that the shells will hit on the usually flat sides and rear of the tank. Maneuver aggressively. Don't just maneuver in one plane, mix it up with rolling and pitching. Break off and maneuver immediatly after shooting. Don't wait for the impact or return fire. 1 Check my F-15C guide
David OC Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 (edited) Yep, move more fire less :), don't say on the same flight line, you only need to move just a little, up, down, left right etc don't be the same all the time, most of the tracer rounds you see will miss if you move before they reach you. Try this out by doing some flybys near some APC's etc and just move in different directions. Remember the gunners have to estimate where you "probably" will be when they fire, if you stay straight and don't maneuver you will most likely be hit. FalconPlot16 Posted April 18, 2017 Author Posted April 18, 2017 to avoid tank cannon fire my dive angle must be high then ?
lemoen Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 to avoid tank cannon fire my dive angle must be high then ? Not necessarily. The trick is to start the dive precisely, so that your pipper is on target immediately. Do the burst and pull away. If you see the tracers coming during the burst, pull away immediately. Make sure you have a few 1000 ft at the lowest point, else you'll get shot.
p1t1o Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 I've been doing a lot of AG practice in the A10C recently. Some notes: Attacking MG-armed vehicles - break off at the first sign of tracer fire and you should be fine. This does give you enough time for a decent strafing run as MG effective range is low. Tank+APC machine guns dont do much damage, you can take one or two light hits, but dont dally. Autocannon-armed vehicles, such as BMP-2 are more dangerous, treat with caution. Do NOT attempt to strafe shilkas! Killing main battle tanks takes a lot of hits from close range. Unless there is a critical need, tanks should be attacked with other weapons. My preferred exit manouver is to break off hard but keep going for the deck, egress at low level and high speed and pop back up to a safe altitude once Im a bit further from any AA fire. Do not attempt to extend available firing time by strafing "slow", this makes you an easy target - and the gunPAC system (the system which stabilises the aircraft under recoil, allowing accurate bursts) seems to need a decent speed for the control authority to effectively stabilise the aircraft. Come in fast. Do NOT fire until you have positively IDd the target visually. This seems obvious but there are many terrain features which look almost exactly like vehicles from a distance.

Deezle Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Do NOT attempt to strafe shilkas! Shilkas are easy. I'd rather deal with those from 1.5nm than get within .7nm to kill a tank. 1 Intel 9600K@4.7GHz, Asus Z390, 64GB DDR4, EVGA RTX 3070, Custom Water Cooling, 970 EVO 1TB NVMe 34" UltraWide 3440x1440 Curved Monitor, 21" Touch Screen MFD monitor, TIR5 My Pit Build, Moza AB9 FFB w/WH Grip, TMWH Throttle, MFG Crosswinds W/Combat Pedals/Damper, Custom A-10C panels, Custom Helo Collective, SimShaker with Transducer

FalconPlot16 Posted April 19, 2017 Author Posted April 19, 2017 (edited) i finally managed to destroy btr's without being shot engaged from 1.7-2.0 miles havent tried tanks cuz i had limited ammunition. edit : i was engaging armed things slowly about 200 knots before i didnt know that it makes me open target now im gun running with full throtle they are not returning fire thanks guys i fixed this problem Edited April 20, 2017 by FalconPlot16
Emmy Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 Tanks .. Attack them from the rear or at a high dive angle. Armor is thinnest in the rear and on top. kylekatarn720 Posted April 22, 2017 Posted April 22, 2017 (edited) There is a guy called, i think its recon stewart, on youtube check his playlists. The ones you are lookin for are, basic flight and advanced flight qualifications if i remember correctly. U will learn a lot from those videos. Video for the gun runs should be this one: Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk Edit: dunno how i managed to post a link to a video that i didnt even watch but just look for air to ground gun employment on that youtubers videos. Pikey Posted April 23, 2017 Posted April 23, 2017 To answer the OP, the real tactic would be to only be lined up with the target at the point immediately before you shoot and to have previously moved in all three planes of axis to present a moving target to the enemy, and once fired, to do the same. This would obviously have been done in one pass ideally, since your days are numbered if you re engage something that is firing accurately at you. The attack profile would be a pop pattern with a low approach, steep climb and rolling in, timed to be pipper on target only as you roll out right on the weapons useful range. It's great fun to practice and requires great timing. In practice, DCS enemy is a pretty good shot for the first attack! No surprise, detected imediately, no AI firing closer subsequently, the more you are around. So, throw most of your real world examples out the window, except the movement in three planes and as little time pointed towards the enemy as possible! The DCS AI gunner is fairly good at predicting where you will be. So don't be...THERE. Move. 1 ___________________________________________________________________________ SIMPLE SCENERY SAVING * SIMPLE GROUP SAVING * SIMPLE STATIC SAVING *
