Hey good pilots,

I've got a weird one here. Whenever I perform my Rampstart or if I'm feelin a bit lazy and go auto.. Win Home. I notice on my right console the EAC light is still illuminated which is a pain because I obviously can't activate my Auto Pilot. The light then goes out after about 1 or 2 waypoints are reached, usually 2. I can't for the life of me find out why this is happening. It only happens after a Ramp or auto start. So I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if there's a way I can stop it? :helpsmilie:

By ramp start, did you mean startin up the a/c manually?

Edit: Nevermind, apparently i dunno how to read

Edit: sorry for the 2 posts. Im having hard time managing my phones touchscreen while trying to wakeup:d

Edit: anyway enough monkey business, does that Eac light stay illuminated from the beginning or does it go off and come back on while you are startin up

Edit: but i gotta admit, that waypoint dependant eac light seems weird. Another question does the eac switch is on? Im asking this one cos if something that eac uses gets screwed up, u cant switch it to arm position it just goes back to off position

Edit: another idea:d, can it be because you start moving before cdu aligns itself properly? Ive never used autostart so i dont actually know how it controls the startup but it should be following a startup procedure, so it should be doing the same thing every time. Maybe you start moving right after it finishes but before cdu aligns properly so u cant use egi and no egi means no eac. And it manages to align itself between wp1 and wp2 cos you start to fly level. What do you say can it be cos of this?:d

Thank you for your reply kylekatarn720. I've tried several methods of taxiing and pre departure, waiting for everything to align and not, both have same results. The EAC light stays lit for at least a couple of waypoints but I haven't yet timed it so next time it happens I will take note of how long and see if that's consistent. It happens about 80% of the time, so quite frequently I reckon. I don't know why. Oh and also I check the EAC switch on my TM Throttle and it's always in the correct position. Well it's really weird and I'm puzzled.

Just tried both manual and auto start. Everything seems to work fine.

Still auto start failing to engage eac is really weird.

There should be an option in misc. section that synchronizes your hotas with cockpit controls. Do you use that? Maybe that can distrupt auto-start.

You should post a track for both manual and auto starts. That would be helpfull. I would try uninstalling A10C module and re installing it if i were you, just in case.

After CDU is aligned (T=4.0.0.8; INS NAV RDY *flashing*) do you press "NAV" on OSB 09 and then switch to EGI?

Without pressing EGI after alignment the EAC light will stay on.

i think the NAV light wouldve been lit too in that case.

Edit: You are right only EAC light is on if you press NAV but dont switch to EGI. But it didnt came back on after i kept flying like that for 100 km or so, like gazace is experiencing. Still i dont think this is the case, cos auto-start switches EGI on its own.

I didn't have any problems with that lately and am not aware of any current bugs regarding these systems.

Can you perform a cold-start and post the track? We'll probably be able to pin-point right away what went wrong then.

Thanks kindly all for advice and input. Yes when I go through all of the Rampstart in order, I press NAV after I do the 15 secs data load on my left MFCD. I also forgot to mention the EGI button just in front of my Stick doesn't engage when my EAC light is on and yes I have box ticked for syncing HOTAS at startup. And sorry dumb question coming.. I've saved tracks within DSC and played them but how do you go about posting them here or playing them outside of DCS? And what I will do is save two tracks, one in auto startup and one manually and btw it's usually ok when I go through the Ramp start manually but again it's kinda hit and miss, sometimes the EAC light stays on and sometimes not but as I mentioned before only for a while, around a couple of WPs. Last night forgot to time it but I was wondering from which point do I start the clock. Anyway thanks again.

Your INS is not aligned. You must wait for the flashing "INS NAV READY" message on the CDU before clicking on "NAV" and then the EGI button in front of the stick. Otherwise your EAC switch behind the throttle can't be set to on and you'll have the EAC warning light on.

I'll try that when I get home, thanks man. I'm hoping that's what I'm doing wrong and that would explain why it's happening during the auto start because I always go 50/50 with the auto Win Home start to speed things up and that's what I usually do, load the data on left MFCD then press OSB 9 *NAV and not even looking down at my CDU. So now I'll wait this time. Thanks

Tracks can't be played outside of DCS.

In order to post a track, you must first save it. After the flight, hit "Save Track" and pick a spot on your system that you can easily find later on.

(DCS does automatically save the last flight as a track file, but the location differs from user to user and it's more spot-on to save the track manually because then you know exactly which flight it was).

Then you can either use a hosting service like Dropbox and just post the link here, or when you write a message in the forum, make sure you've got the advanced view, click "Managed Attachments" and then select and upload the file you previously saved. Be aware that track files can't be bigger than 5 MB when uploaded here, but if you use a service like Dropbox, that limit doesn't apply.

[...] and that's what I usually do, load the data on left MFCD then press OSB 9 *NAV and not even looking down at my CDU.

Sounds about right, but when you press "Nav" on the CDU (regardless whether it's OSB 9 on the CDU repeater MFCD screen or down at the CDU), that sort of freezes the INS alignment. Unless you're scrambling for an alert start, wait for the alignment to finish!

Sounds like the system does an in-flight alignment, which will take some time after take-off. Though I thought that would only happen when commanded manually.

Yes yes when I'm wheels up it manually aligns but it takes a while and last night I did a Ramp Auto start (Win Home key) if that's what you call it but this time I didn't touch anything haha. I waited till it totally finished which seemed like forever but the EAC light DID go out but then I did my normal Ramp Start which I do by the book but same thing happened.. EAC light remained on and only went out after a certain amount of time whilst I was airborne. I'm checking my CDU and see nothing flashing or anything unusual. I leaned the Ramp Start from the Training mission in DCS and I actually wrote it down in order word for word and eventually learned it off by heart, so now I'm thinking there's something along the way that I'm not doing correctly so tonight I'll do it with my notes in hand. It's no biggie but it's a hassle only cause I can't access my Autopilot which I love doing early on so I can relax and set stuff up in my cockpit. It's ok as long as the EAC light does eventually go out which it always has done. I recall one mission in Stone Shield I think it was where you have to Ramp Start within a few mins of the Airfield getting bombed big time. It was cruel, you were virtually taxiing with no screens and canopy open otherwise there was no time before you got wasted, forget bout EAC light or any other light for that matter your right control panel was like a Christmas tree ha! Well, I'll see how things go and try and find out what the hell I'm doing wrong. I appreciate very much to all who added their tips in this little dilemma. Hey and thanks kindly for the tips on posting tracks, I appreciate that.

Cheers, peace out. G

"INS NAV READY" needs to be flashing on CDU screen and there should be a line at the bottom that says "T= 4.0 0.8" . Thats when you press NAV.

Wish you said that you were distrupting the autostart sequence that wouldve cleared things up a lot:d

I told him to check AND try this in my post on page 1 too :D

I wonder if he even read and tried things out that we recommend here.

Again slow and steady: After you switched to "CDU" wait for T=4.0.0.8. See below.

wpid-Photo-1-Jan-2005-1738.jpg

Once you have this press OSB 09 to set to NAV.

Then Click on "EGI" below the Horizontal Situation Indicator (HSI)

Now you should be free to turn EAC on.
