Hell, they even made some INCREDIBLE shaders/materials for the cockpit in the external model!!!! loook at those seat, dashboard, pilot helmet, canopy glass, pilot's suit, etc. :notworthy::notworthy:

 

I just cant stop looking those pics!!!

 

I agree, they said the tomcat would look better than viggen!! imagine it then!!!! OMG!

The quality of the work here is simply unbelievable! I still can't quite believe that this is a home flight sim that actually runs well in VR. Simply staggering. :thumbup:

Spotting was better back then. I would like to that kind graphics for VR. :)

There's the performance side too :) Shaders are GPU work and DCS is a CPU limited game.

You are very correct with that but also, there is a simulation side too and being an active Falcon BMS e-pilot I would say the very last thing DCS needs is better looks. DCS slaps any flight sim hands down when it comes to visuals already, in current build - simming, not so much.

I sense priorities has gone wonky somewhere.

I kinda agree, except...

 

Well Falcon's graphics are barf.

 

But beyond that, in DCS we have a spotting problem, which is heavily related to graphics realism. Some of this is down to, say, the complete lack of a thermal layer, so we dont really have functional IR sensors. But the biggest issue is just the difficulty of spotting a tank sitting in a grass field, even with a targetting pod from 2nm an 5kft.

 

So to fix this, you improve the graphics engine. Its a no-brainer that this brings with it higher fidelity graphics.

 

And when realism is the game, there is little point in skimping on visual realism.
