Looking behind the bugs (that no doubt that will be sorted out)

Watching the hyped trailers, guess we all are very disappointed. In the future this may be fixed as the asset pack grows. Today it is not plug and play to get what is promised in trailers.

After a week flying, I am getting bored. A peaceful landscape with Allied airfields thrown in. Not happy with the colors either.

Now it is limited to a backdrop for dogfights, and ground attack Falais pocket and Caen. (With no air opposition if historical correct). It takes some work in Mission Editor to make this. Future campaigns are very limited, probably just Falais area a couple of weeks. What are the ships used for?

No doubt best use as is now is intercepting high altitude B-17 inbound to Germany. A lot of great missions can be created with this theme.

Now it is a missed opportunity. Without dirt airfields it could be used as a scenery for Warsaw Pact breakthrough in the `80.

For most interesting WWII scenarios, the landscape should look like a battlefield with craters and ruins. Broken bridges could easily have been implemented. With this start point, lot of missions ranging from late 43 to D-Day itself, and a month beyond would have been plausible. And still have B-17 missions intact.

I will give N44 a rest for while, going back World 1.5. More stable and interesting.

Of course I will fly in Normandy again! Looking forward to patches and missions.

But still a missed opportunity.

Yes. I was hoping Normandy would go through Alpha and Beta to full release along with all bugs being squashed and all assets 100% percent functional in 7 days too.

Many feature still to come, and it is very early days in the Alpha.

If you want damaged buildings you need to create a mission and set a zone up, there is a scenery destruction feature included already

If bugs are an issue for you I would take a rest from it, alphas are not for everyone for sure.

Im getting very poor performance in VR, is this just me or a known issue? I can be patient but i'm worried that the map is just going to feel sluggish due to its content. I have no issues for example flying over Las Vegas that has alot of buildings & traffic.

Have to hand it to ED, that's a pretty awesome feature :)

Hmm..... I was pretty disappointed at first but after making adjustments, learning the lay of the land, and figuring out all of the ins and outs of 2.1, and Normandy, I have to say that I am pretty happy.

Bugs? Of course, but the map as a whole is pretty much what we've seen in the past with the release of Nevada. All of the assets, and other things that seem to be missing will show up soon enough. And although I do find it kind of strange that ED would show us all of this cool stuff, and not have it up and running upon delivery, I still enjoy the map.

As far as being bored, I don't understand all of that. Caucasus is no different than NTTR, or Normandy in the way that they all require a certain amount of creativity and imagination to create amusing scenarios. What is the difference in the 3 maps? Pockmarked landscape (or lack there of)? Battlegrounds? What? Caucasus has none of these things. In my opinion, all 3 maps create equal opportunity for unlimited scenarios and enjoyment.

I am just glad that I got Normandy to run with descent FPS, and can even take advantage of the new shading with no real performance hits. The new shaders really do make a huuuuge difference. And again.....not sure why ED made both 2.1 maps look so bad with them turned off. NTTR looks terrible (worse than it ever did in 2.0) now unless you turn them on. All of my grievances toward 2.1 had everything to do with having the new shaders off.

All in all, I'm convinced that Normandy has tons of potential. People who get bored with it aren't using enough imagination (IMO). It is like everything else in life. It is what you make of it.

Early access isnt for everyone, this kind of release helps ED get a larger sample of computers it will be run on, and helps polish up their releases.

SO for some people, it would be better to wait till its released from early access.

My review was not about alpha and bugs.

About limited potensial vs could have been max potensial.

-And colors.

Just chimed in after an instant dogfight in 1.5.

A huge difference in color palette and variation. Horizon is much better in 1.5

I do not mind alpha. Flying DCS since pre A10C beta on 32bit.

A ton of bugs!

:)
