Please ED, can you show the area you added on Caucasus? I'm curious to know about this part in the latest weekend update.

By Czich talking about Caucasus WIP:

Additional map area in the southern portion of the map

Hope it includes at least an airfield in Turkey...

Thanks a lot.

Question: The Caucasus is gorgeous! Is this expansion Turkey?

Answer of Czich: There is no extension. Caucasus in the old limits.

The grid of the earth does indeed go south more than before, but there is no infrastructure modeled there.

So, no new airfields

You have terrain modelled in which a mission builder can add a FARP for example.

Moreover, the airbases of Turkish Air Force are distant from the map location: the nearest airbase is Merzifon, far away from Black sea

The community need lower the bar about expectations. ED never talk about "I build turkey extension" with airbases.

I guess I must be used to ED-speak. I took this to mean improvements to the southern portion of the map rather than an extension. Right now its pretty much a no-man's land with little to indicate any sort of habitation--well, the extreme southern end of it, anyway.

I'll be glad if they simply turn the rail cut through the mountain near Tsipa into the actual tunnel that it is and add some of the towns, villages, and infrastructure that actually exist in that part of the map.

Merzifon isn't far at all. It's a very reasonable location for most aircraft. Some old map mods even featured it for Lock On

In my opinion, it would be the best possible addition to the map except Crimea.

If we're not getting additional bases, that's disappointing. But perhaps we'll be able to add bases to the map at some point after it comes to 2.5.

Trazbon, Merzifon and other require build a map part similar to the actual Caucasus map, as similar to require the "resurrect" of Crimea. Please, low your expectations.

And please, the caucasus map has not the "entire black sea map" or "get me Turkey free", by the same "reclaim", with require to ED build the other Caucasus countries (Azerbaian, Armenia, etc) before otherwise more "extensions" outside of actual map.

Well to be fair the issue with adding Crimea was mostly a map object limit, which EDGE bypasses. Adding areas should be technically feasible as far as I understand.

The Turkish bases are also near the coast, so the map areas to be added could essentially be thin strips. Airbases were never promised though, so people shouldn't be expecting them. Still they're probably the most exciting aspect of a map addition.

Feasible, but, ED has other plans to build additional maps. I expected more maps before extend a free map without any reward.

Id much rather we get to the 2.5 merge first, and then talk about expansions later. Whether to the Caucassus map, SoH or anything else in the pipeline.

How about paid map expansion packs for later?

For me expanding the Caucuses map, as much as I'd like it I feel is low priority, in comparison to actually releasing the upgraded version and merging to get us DCS 2.5 but maybe afterwards? At least then there's a reward for ED from those that want it, I mean I don't know who would want expansions to the south, I feel like Crimea is more attractive to be modelled properly. Personally my only real interest in expanding the south of the map is modelling the Turkish straits: the Bosphorus, the Sea of Marmara and the Darnadelles, purely because they are a future strategic naval location being choke points and being the sole point of entry into the Black Sea from the rest of the world.

Obviously I'm in for expansions in any direction even if they are paid, simply because making a map larger automatically increases the amount of potential things you can do with it as a theatre. Which to me significantly increases it's value as a map which I believe to be one of the most important features of a new map because DCS fundamentally, is a sandbox simulator so maps with the largest amount of potential are always to me going to be the superior maps.
