Gault05 Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 (edited) Only four months in and already my new fraking rig is giving me the worst week of my life. All I did was switch out my fans and poopf! No power in the midst of the frakin setup. Checked the connectors, tested the power supply TWICE, I even had to get my motherboard replaced and it wont do aanything than shut down on startup. Is there anything to do at this point?:( Edited July 26, 2017 by Gault05 Case:NZXT S340 Mid Tower;Motherboard:MSi B550 Pro Series ATX;CPU:AMD Ryzen 5 5600 6-core with Wraith Stealth Cooler;Memory:Gigastone 64GB;Hard Drive:Barracuda 2TB Hard Drive; Sound:Asus Xonar DGX; Power:Corsair RMe 750w PSU; GPU: MSI GeForce Ventus 12GB w/OC Modules: Flaming Cliffs 2024, P-51D, Combined Arms, Black Shark 3, A-10C/2, WW2 Assets, F/A-18C, F-16C Viper, AH-64D, Supercarrier, China Assets Pack, Maps: Persian Gulf, Syria, Marianas, Sinai
Chump Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 Sorry to hear that you are having issues, man. What I'm going to say might sound trivial to you, as you have probably tried all of this. It is not meant to get a rise out of you. :) Since I don't know what you have tried, I'll start with the basics: Have you tried hooking up the bare minimum (PSU, mobo w/CPU+fan, vid, single RAM, kb/mouse/monitor)? This would obviously eliminate if your sound card, HDs, other peripherals (fans, etc.) are bad. If it still won't POST, then I would suggest figuring out what the error code is. If you are not familiar with this, it should be a series of beeps. You might need to beg/borrow a speaker to hook to your mobo to get this. There are also diagnostic cards that will help you figure out the issue (https://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Description=post%20test%20card&Submit=ENE). I have had to use mine a few times for others and it is well worth the few bucks to have around. If the bare minimum does work, I would suggest adding in a single piece of the puzzle and start her back up until it goes poof again. Don't give up on her. One shoddy thing can cause the whole shebang not to play nicely. Even if it is something like flaky RAM on one stick and in one sector, it can be found. There are a plethora of programs to diagnose it if you get it working. We have to get it powered up first! Lots of smart people here. Someone will have an idea once you tell us what you have already tried. 2
Sryan Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 No POST, no beeps? Is it possible the CPU power feed is not connected (properly), in case you worked on the rear case fan? Check my F-15C guide
David OC Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 Like Chump said, many helpful people around here. All I did was switch out my fans and poopf! No power in the midst of the frakin setup. Can you write a bit more about the problem, is there any power at all? I have change PSU on the same PC at work twice this year! The first time after a week! There not the best quality, not crap either, just bad luck on this one pc, I guess. Konovalov Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 Is your CPU cooler fan connected to the motherboard? You say that it shuts down on startup. Does the BIOS screen display? Can you get into BIOS? StandingCow Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 Is the CPU fan plugged into the CPU_FAN header on the motherboard? I think as protection it won't start up if it doesn't detect a fan running on that header. 5900X - 32 GB 3600 RAM - 1080TI My Twitch Channel ~Moo
Riverseeker Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 no post? check rams also (fried?) clean up ram and mobo pins too (dust ftw!) 200m butterflier inside :harhar: MERLO forever
Hawkeye60 Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 On a similar note, I have bought a 1000 watt ps to replace my 750. I bought a Corsair HX 1000 The first ps arrived DOA! Sent back and no replacement available for 6 to ? weeks. Had another model Corsair sent. This one arrived DOA!!!!!! Contacted Corsair. They are sending a new one under warranty! Sh@t Happens! Test the ps! FYI "Yeah, and though I work in the valley of Death, I will fear no Evil. For where there is one, there is always three. JG14_Smil Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 Hello, Verify that the power button itself is working. I had this happen once and finally noticed the button wasn't seated as it was supposed to. Long shot, but good luck to you.
HiJack Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 Configure for one memory bank and switch between them.
Johnny_Rico Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 Did you use an ESD wrist strap connected to ground when working on your PC More info required You tested your power supply (using a volt meter ?) When testing the power supply was it removed from the system and all lead disconnected ? Gault05 Posted July 26, 2017 Author Posted July 26, 2017 (edited) Alright, heres the deal: While I was watching some yt vids, my pc suddenly shuts down for no good reason. At first, I thought it was the vga cable giving out, so i readjusted it, and started it back up again. After a few more minutes pass, it goes out again. Now Im thinking somethings wrong, because whenever im on dcs it NEVER closes my gaming sessions. My attention then turns to the processor. I used a temp. Monitoring program to keep an eye on the heat it was gathering. Turns out it reaches up to 80C, which given my first time using this was a bit concerning, so after that, I decided to switch out the original fan with the Hyper 212 evo to see if that would ease the temp, and clean and relube my processor. It was only after I put everything in place along with the new fan that the pc would no longer start (meaning that I press the power button, the fans spin split second then stop). All the connectors were in place plugged in tightly, restarted the psu, still the same result. At this point, I called the manufacturer to get the mobo replaced because i thought it might have been a defect. Now i just recieved a new mobo, installed everything again as usual, only to go through the same problem again: no startup. I had my power supply tested as well to see if it was that, but it checked out fine. Did it again and it was working properly. So now im not sure what is the problem anymore. EDIT: For those who are wondering what I used to test the PSU, it was a power supply self tester by.HDE. All the RAM were locked in place, the CPU fan outlet was plugged in its place, and the processor was locked in correctly aligned. Nothing else was bothered with. shonist Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 For the sake of everyone here, explain what its startup, and if you dont mind. record with your cellphone or something to whole "startup" process. recording inside the tower too. at a guess... you could probably connected the CPUFAN CM EVO 212 to another socket. it should be in the PC FAN socket. remove the GPU and start the pc from onboard graphics. switch your monitor cable to it too. Chump Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 As far as I'm aware, his motherboard does not have built-in video. Try a re-seat of your CPU. I'm going to assume that when you said "relube" you meant "reapply thermal paste". :) I would hate to think that you were spraying WD-40 on it! (insert laugh here) Did you happen to have your CPU overclocked?
Demon_ Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 How did you test the psu? Attache ta tuque avec d'la broche.
