Barrels! Great!

I just had an idea! Can U make 'em puff smoke and fire like candle bombs do?!

I'd like to have it with the grass runways mod to make field landings like IRL.

Here wo go with another one, camouflaged field fuel depot.

A free placeable grassstrip was one of the first things I tried btw. Unfortunatly movable objects will fall trough it ( altough vehicles with only one waypoint will stay on it ). Realy a shame, grass and dirt strips would have been a blast.

Another small tibit :) I know we will get those with BS, but I need them for another object.

Nitpick:

I'm not sure such cans are in military use anymore. Rather, the modern US Army seems to prefer 500 gallon collapsible fuel bladders for use at FARPs:

soo....will these new models replace old ones? No one seem to have answered this part. Or have you found a way to add these models into a new slot.

Read the whole thread mate ;)

Interesting. Do you have any more references about this ? Are these mostly used for FARPs ( helos ) or are all vehicles supplied trough such bladders ?

@SuperKungFu:

It will be possible to create the lamp post, but it wont have any lights.

While I think more objects to crowd the airbases with are very important ( see my missions ), I will stick creating targets for the moment tough. The Su-25 has become my main ride in LOMAC and it realy lacks a appropriate target selection.

It would be very cool if more people would creating content for Lock On. I understand that creating aircraft is much more prestigious for the ace modelers, but it still remains mainly eye-candy at the end ( unless you work closely with ED for integration ). This possibility to add new objects realy gives us a way to increase gameplay though ( although mostly for the A-G guys ).

Considering the crying how unmodable Lock On is in the past, frankly I am quite surprised that not more people take advatage of that huge modding potential LOMAC has got now.

Mbot, do you have any screenies of what the camo-netting looks like from above, approximately 2000-4000m altitude? I would be interested to note, being a T-Frog Driver, how this will affect target spotting.

There used to be photos of these being used in Iraq or Afghanistan, on kiowapilots.com I believe, but I can no longer find them anywhere. The bilge pump used with them was about the size of a breadbox if I recall, and just connected one at a time by a single hose. When deflated, the tank looks like a crumpled black rubber tire.

They seem to be used mainly as a backup resource, when the forward base is located somewhere that the usual M978 HEMTT or other refuelling vehicle cannot go. It thus makes sense that they are delivered by helicopter when setting up the FARP, as shown in the b&w photo from Vietnam. So, such a FARP might be expected to have a variety of helicopter types, but few to no ground vehicles at its location.

There was also a recent book ("Ambush Alley" IIRC) that described similar bladders being hauled around roped to M1A1 tank turrets to give them longer range, that were cut away manually before entering combat (much as the long-range jerry cans attached to the rear of T-72 and T-80 tanks can also be jettisoned).

Of course, I completely agree with all the thoughts you've expressed in this topic, and admire and applaud your effort. The Ka-50 and other CAS helicopters should also spend much of their time reconnoitering interesting ground sites through their high-powered optics, in addition to shooting tanks with PGMs. IMHO, the ability to see muzzle flashes from a particular window of a building for example, and to defeat the sniper in that room with aimed gunfire while not destroying the rest of the building, would be a great addition. Your contribution seems to be a step in that general direction. Many thanks!

Are you sure, would it be possible to make the model and then use the arguments that turn on the airbases runway lights, or like when a plane is landing in lockon you have those vehicles at the beginning of the runway lighting it up? Just curious, this would be interesting to not only implement into airbases, but be able to place them along city streets.

Another object, camouflaged field ammunition depot.

About the visibility of the camouflaged objects, I can't give you a straight answer yet. I still have to tweak around the LODs and other settings. Currently the shadow the net draws make it a realy large black spot from far away. So I have to find a way around that too.

About the lamp with lights, perhaps it is possible someway, but I don't know how. There are still a couple of options I still don't understand ( and didn't need so far ).

MBot - outstanding work mate !! Regarding the problem of shadows making the target more visible from distance (big black spot), I would argue that such nets don't cast much of a shadow, certainly nothing you would see from more than a few metres away and it would be easiest to simply lose the shadow completely.....

dunno if this would work but will it be possible to create fuel tanks for the A-10 and it actually works without replacing any current models? I know this is slightly different concept from static object but could it be done? The fuel tanks for the A-10 looks like this

Hmm, I possibly run into a showstopper. I can add maximum 5 new objects, with a 6th one I get a error while loading Lock On.

Could this mean that static objects can't be added at all, but there have simply been 5 unassigned static objects slots in the .exe file ?

No :)

Check the index number you assign(could be used already) - alternatively try leaving it out altogether.

Cool...so there's no limits ha?!

I saw scare crows in many Russian ABs back in nineties. Looks like ruskies had no infrasonic devices installed there so adding scarecrow as a static object might be a good idea.

Unfortunatly I can't work it out. Any object above index 511 will create a loading error.

Try:

a). index numbers from 710 and onwards.

...or alternatively..

b). remove the line "index =" entirely from your new entry.

As you can see, some entries do not have an index number and I am not sure whether it is even necessary for static objects.
