With the BST releasing Garmin NS430 first for the Mi8 , there as been a discussion of what other aircraft are compatible with this system.

Got informed that some MIlitary Mig21's have these.

Some guy posted images of Croatian Mig21Bis with the Garmin NS430 GPS navigation/ Communications device.

I know this navigation was developed by Belsimtek but i think it would be awesome for LN to release a Mig21 with a modern GPS Navigation/ Communications sytem.

thing is these Older radios on the mIg21 are obsolete. incompatible with many modern AM/FM radio frequencies and NAto Awacs. Plus having GPS Navigation and a Digital Mapping would certainly help getting around, especially if you fly with No markers. and cant fall back on the F10 map. being able to set up your own flight plan with way points and such would be amazing.

SO i would hope to possible see magnitude have a second updated BIS.

1+

These types of satellite navigation devices are so cheap and easy to install that they have become common place for almost anything old, military and civilian alike.

I wonder if server settings can limit this use? For example, in a Vietnam setting, could they keep the GPS units out of the options?

BTW, I'm all for putting one in my MiG for all modern period uses, I would also like to keep my '60s era dream alive :D

This would most likely be put under the "special options" tab. So like the realistic pipper, and all other special options (no INS alignment, etc), it could be disabled in the MP editor.

Yeah… the possibilities for old soviet aircraft pimping are so high that in the end in multiplayer, nobody would be satisfied with so many combinations. Gimme that GPS, gimme that radio, gimme that HUD, gimme that RWR, gimme that canopy…

Here is the shortcut :D

I'll buy :

МиГ-23МЛД & МЛА МиГ-27К МиГ-25 Mirage III F-4E any IJ plane 1950' Korea Dynamic campaign module

I like options, and this one would be particularly handy when operating the -21 in a more modern scenario.

Adding this would by no means mean that the old system would be deleted. It would only be another option... Besides the GPS-module's worth is largely in the amount of aircraft you can use it in.

no ......

asking for such a GPS Navigation/ comm device would not turn a legacy mig21bis into the Mig21-93. Its not wishlist feature. Such GPS like the Garmin NS 430 was in fact developed so it can be cheaply and easily retrofitted into legacy aircraft either military or civilian owned. Again i suggest you view that link. Its a simple retrofit. and has been realistically applied to other aircraft such as the Mig21bis. Frankly This feature is not limited to just soviet aircraft. NS 430 is widespread among various legacy aircraft, Including western ones, especially in the civilian world.

Its like buying an off shelf GPS for an older model automobile that doesn't have a state of the art integrated GPS/ Infotainment system from the manufacturer, except for an aircraft. In fact the idea is to still have the legacy experience, but in a modern setting.

I suggest you also look at the NS430 module from BST, and that it is being first applied to a legacy Mi8, and is confirmed planned for L39. It's not requiring an entirely new module for integration, nor is it an attempt to turn the aircraft into a glass cockpit galore with the greatest and latest avionics. Far from it. Quite a far cry. AS such the price reflects it. Similarly its not unreasonable to want that system for the Mig21BIs. Besides thats Far less development time than going off and creating an entirely new more advanced MIg module ( Mig21-93)

I would also like something like that.

If I were defense minister of a US-aligned country which operated MiG-21's, I'd for sure buy it. On the other hand if you are not aligned with the US, the system would be a liability due to GPS being an American system.

If you we're, let's say, an ally of Russia.. You could just opt to use their satellites instead of the US ones.

Honestly? Now adays most higher end GPS receivers use NAVSTAR and GLONASS at the same time anyways, so it wouldn't really matter.

I'm pretty sure GNS-430 supports GLONASS
