Hi Guys,

A friend of mine who works for the Swiss National Television got a chance to spend a few days on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69). During this time a Swiss F/A-18 Pilot got his carrier qualification. The documentary is in german, however there are some nice shots to watch if you speak the language of aviation :smartass:

He got a cat shot in a greyhound after the filming was done, he said it's quite an experience.

Here is the direct link:

Enjoy!:

That is debatable :music_whistling:

Anyways, great documentary. I've already linked it in the german F/A-18 thread a week ago.

I got to go out and stay on a carrier (USS Reagan) for a couple days. Got a trap in the Greyhound and a cat shot. Got to watch all the flight ops up close, it was very cool.

I had no idea Swiss pilots got carrier qualified, is this a normal thing? Not only for the Swiss but other nations that fly hornets & super hornets, like Australia, Canada, etc.

No, if I got that right, there is always only one swiss pilot at a time flying in the US Navy (for years), while a USN pilot is flying in the swiss air force. So these are just some pilots who get a very special experience.

The RAAF also do regular exchanges to the US, but only one or two at a time. At the moment it is a bit different as we also have many pilots training in the Growler and F-35.

Man, the jolt they take flying off the bow of the carrier always looks a little painful. It may just be the camera exaggerating...
