local storage = more flexibility ... which is sometimes necessary if things get screwed up (yeah, not really a legit reason, but still...) and which is sometimes just convinient (modding things)

To be fair, there's nothing stopping someone writing a quick js/node or even C# app to send stuff to a cloud themselves.

AWS and Azure are cheap to use.

Hell, you could even leverage Git (use Github or Bitbucket as a remote) and use that as a file store (versioned too). Something some chaps in the company I work for have done.

All you're going to do is A-B compare on the Saved Games/DCS/Input dir and send the latest version up, then pull down when needed.

Hmmmmmmmm...this sounds like a do-able idea now.

Maybe an option export the current control bindings to say a .txt file so it can be used as a back-up, then have say an 'open' button on the controls menu and browse the file so that it can be kept for reinstall.

I don't think I'm on board with online storage though - I much prefer being in direct control of my files but that's just the way I am :hehe:

-1 , adding another central point of failure I dont think is a good idea

You have never used a cloud sync ? If it finds differences, it asks you which one you want to use....

Yes I have used various cloud sync systems

But of course there is no cloud just someone elses computer/server, and they never go down right ?

Differences ... between what? The initial idea was that the config is just stored in some cloud - but I rather want it stored locally.

Yes, ofc you can use other tools to sync local directories with something else, but OP's idea was to simplify things and have a built-in solution.
