bunraku Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 Hi Just reinstalled A-10C after an 18 month absence. I have the TM warthog and Saitek Pedals and believe as far as I know they are calibrated correctly etc. I am struggling to fly straight and level without trimming. And when my plane is leaning 1way and I trim the opposite way even just one or 2 tiny presses and my bird starts to lean the other way. It's never the case that the 1 push levels the plane out and I am always having to manually hold the bird level or trim every few seconds. It's annoying having to practically hold the stick the entire flight. I have downloaded the WH Calib tool and it hasn't made a difference. Any ideas what else I can do as I can't remember the Hog being so hard to fly previously? Thanks
MegOhm_SD Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 (edited) You are not alone...Not sure why its been changed over time, but I agree the trim has changed. Why? Who knows. Its not our hardware. Snoopy Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 The real A-10 requires a lot of trim, personally it doesn’t seem any different to me recently. v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website
MegOhm_SD Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 Seems it is more difficult to find the sweetspot. Ofcourse after unloading any ordinance etc will require adjustment. But it does seem its really difficult to tune it in as in the past. Nooch Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 It's perfectly normal. It's hard at first but with practice you'll see you can do it. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
bunraku Posted November 2, 2017 Author Posted November 2, 2017 I've posted a video below. There is no wind and no payload. It doesn't pitch much and the trim there isn't too bad. However the bank kicks in eventually. You can also see around the 3.45 mark that it is banking and I do 1 click on the trim in the opposite direction and it eventually starts to bank in that direction. I can't remember it being such an issue and I really don't wanna hang on the stick for a whole mission. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HXBtKeiy9o __________________
Kippy Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 Flying the DCS A-10C from August 2014 to now, I've never noticed a difference in the behavior of the trim. Like others have said in the thread, as you get back into the groove you'll probably find it easier to trim than before. One thing I'd like to advise is not to go "trim chasing." Chasing the trim back and forth, never quite getting it right... is only going to frustrate you and take up your valuable time and attention that could be spent doing other things. The A-10 has an autopilot, use it man. Most of the time the autopilot is off, you're likely maneuvering, a time when trim isn't really all that much of a concern, or you've taken damage rendering the autopilot inoperable, and in that case you'd probably want to get hands on with the jet rather than let it coast on it's own. I used to chase the trim wheel up and down in the C152 only to end up failing to hold my altitude and screw up my perfectly balanced trim by needing to climb or descend again. Just get the trim "close enough" and don't be afraid to get a little handsy with the jet to make sure it's doing what you want it to. With some aircraft, trim is really important. With the A-10, I say just get it "close enough." Being a military aircraft, not only will airspeed changes and all that other fun stuff throw your trim around, you also have big payload changes as you release ordinance.. No point in chasing the perfect trim down only to drop a bomb 30 seconds later and then have to do it all over again. Hope you're enjoying your return to the A-10 bunraku. 1 163rd vFS Discord Soaring With the Snakes, Fangs Out!
feefifofum Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 I really don't wanna hang on the stick for a whole mission. Autopilot? There is a pretty robust set of AP controls you can lean on when your wrist needs a break. 1 THE GEORGIAN WAR - OFFICIAL F-15C DLC
MegOhm_SD Posted November 4, 2017 Posted November 4, 2017 After flying the Hog more I have to eat my words and agree nothings changed. I was wrong. I had been away from it and at first seemed excessive. Then it came back to me and I found the way I used to fly her. Mouse_99 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 I am doing the same, after a house fire two years ago, I'm finally getting around to fly again, but I can't hardly do anything as I spend far too much time trying to trim the aircraft. I have a X52 throttle and stick. DCS needs to set up a better control system that allows either an automatic trim setting or a mini app that allows you to calibrate and set up your controls in-game where you use them. I'm totally frustrated wit my experience.
bunraku Posted November 7, 2017 Author Posted November 7, 2017 I'm finding it frustrating too. I spend the whole mission trimming or on Autopilot to fly level.
bunraku Posted November 9, 2017 Author Posted November 9, 2017 Has anyone got their config file they can send me for the TM Warthog Hotas please. I want to try different settings and see if I can get one that helps. My email is davemcqueen70@gmail.com. Thanks
Andy1966 Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 Hello, Just a thought as I recently did a reinstall of all DCS versions, and noticed that my slew, view, and trim axis were all reversed. left was right and right was left, up and down were correct, threw me for a loop for a while. found it in control menu. affected all modules We are Virtual Pilots, a growing International Squad of pilots, we fly Allies in WWII and Red Force in Korea and Modern combat.
