L-39beeratros
Hello, I am in need of an upgrade on my PC for DCS, however my budget isn't really that big. I am aiming for at least 60 fps on highest possible settings for given setup, 1080p (for now, maybe 4k in next year). My question is, would new GPU and RAM (it's cheap) be sufficent? I was thinking about GTX 1070TI or 1080 and 32GB DDR3. If I had big budget I'd also get a new motherboard with CPU (probably i5-8600K) and 32GB DDR4 RAM, but i'd be happy to not have to make this big upgrade. My setup now: i5-4430 (4 x 3.0 GHz) Gigabyte R9 270X 2GB Asus H87 MB 2x4GB DDR3 1600MHz 500W PSU 27" 1080p 60Hz screen I am now around 30fps on low-to-mid settings on Caucasus map :( Thanks for any advice! Simicro
Hello, For 4K you need a 1080Ti to have high/ultra settings with good fps. For 2K a 1070Ti or 1080 is perfect. Regarding your CPU, try to aim for at least 4 Ghz after overcloking. As I understand, for DCS, number of cores does not matter (yet). 16 Gb of RAM recommended. Even if no date is set yet, DCS 2.5 is supposed to be "close" according to a recent post by a community manager. At this time there is no hardware specs yet. You can wait for DCS 2.5 to be released first before upgrading. If you want to upgrade rapidly, keep in mind DCS 2.5 to avoid deception or multiple upgrades in a short time frame. - Tony - . L-39beeratros
Thank you very much! looks like I'll wait for 2.5 and user experience with it. I'm not really into overclocking but maybe I won't have other choice...

Simicro
I'm not really into overclocking but maybe I won't have other choice... Me too I was not into overclocking but basic overclocking is actually rather easy. In recent BIOS (I bought my rig late 2013), you just need to select the speed in a menu, restart your PC and see if is stable. I don't know if your i5-4430 (which does not have a "K") can be overclocked easily with the procedure I described above. - Tony - . Konovalov
I don't know if your i5-4430 (which does not have a "K") can be overclocked easily with the procedure I described above. Nope he cannot overclock this chip unless he plays with the FSB of 100Mhz which is not a good idea. Given that the CPU is going to be s bottleneck with cards like the 1070 and above. DCS loves clock speed of 4Ghz plus so my advise is that if DCS is your thing, then save up for a totally new rig. L-39beeratros
I think I'll upgrade in two stages: - first stage will be new GPU - probably 1070ti or 1080 later this year (with my current setup - 3.2 GHz "turbo" CPU being bottleneck shouldn't be THAT bad, or will it? - second stage new motherboard, CPU and RAM next year... Cibit
I run a 1080 with the rift and have to adapt my settings to suit. I am pretty sure my CPU is now the bottleneck. BUT I can run at 60fps@1080 with everything maxxed out See my sig for system specs. I am looking at upgrading and my wife is footing the bill as my Christmas present. After doing some research and consulting with Bitmaster I will be going for the 8600K with a Asus Prime A Z370 and 12Gb 3200 DDR4 RAM. This is going to be around 640GBP and will fit into my exsisting PC with a custom W/C loop A Cheaper alternative which still has very high clock speed is https://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-Core-I3-7350K-4-20-GHz/dp/B01NCEJN24/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1510405102&sr=8-7&keywords=i3+cpu paired with a cheaper Z270 mobo and new RAM would be a budget build with great performance for DCS stick a 1070 or 1080 in when funds allow and you should be quite well future proofed Or for a few quid extra the new Coffee lake i3 with 4 cores https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0759FWJDK/ref=psdc_430515031_t3_B01NCEJN24 But you still pay a premium for a Z370 board Good luck i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB
Simicro
Hello Cibit, I wish I had a wife like yours  I mean for understanding a bit our hobby and making gifts related to it ;) Is it the Rift that is more demanding? Because if your monitor is Full HD @ 60 Hz, you are already at the maximum since apparently you get solid 60 fps. I run a 1080 with the rift and have to adapt my settings to suit. Cibit
Hi mate, the rift is very demanding, it uses quite a bit of CPU power and I think this reduces what is available for DCS. I am going to try the affinity core tweak thats mentioned in another thread. Also my wife has 2 horses which I hardly ever complain about which cost a lot to keep, so its my turn now:P i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB

As long as you leave 1 lousy SSD in there it will be up to any task in the living room ;) This i5 build actually belongs to my son. I borrowed it because it has built in USB 3.0 (for the rift) he has my old 920 i7 with the watercooling setup. That is what is really being replaced. The guts of this build will go to replace my wife's old core2duo. I wish I could find a use for the Zalman cpu cooler that will be obsolete unless I can somehow mod it for the 920. I am starting to wonder if the 8th gen and z370 the best build for my budget. i5 7600K is probably better value for money especially given the discrepancies in price between 370/270 mobo's and spend the savings on more ram or an M.2 drive. with my 360 rad and D5 vario I should be able to push 5Ghz without too much issue.
