Im using a Warthog Throttle and Stick.

In the P-51 im using the left Throttle for the Power Setting so i think i will use left Throttle for Nozzle Control in the Harrier since i want to save the Friction Control for zooming.

But this may change when i get my hands on this Baby and find out about all the other things which might need some Axis. Radar Elevation maybe. simply dont know until im familiar with the Harrier Avionics.

gnah....i want this plane NOW..... :pilotfly:

No I could never get Target to work properly back in the day...that ship has sailed for me...I hate that software.

In the controls section on the bottom there's a "modifiers" tab. If you go in there you can assign a modifier key to whatever you want. So for example my modifier key is the paddle on the stick. That means that if I hold down the paddle and press a button it does something different than if I had pressed just the button by itself.

I've got:

zoom in slow = paddle + dms up

zoom out slow = paddle + dms dn

zoom reset = paddle + dms right

I have this setup for every single airframe. Works great for me and frees up the slider access for more important things.

many should take a look to modifiers to extend usability in their HOTAS.

I usually have a two modifiers always in use, one for weapons management as secondary functions and one for navigation/flight functions like landing gear, chute landing flaps etc.

This way primary G940 controls are "safe" and fast as they are dedicated to critical tasks in stressful moments.

The modifiers in different controls help to double the opposite control easily as usually we operate them limited in some manner with a one finger. Like thumb top of stick or side of throttle.

The special switch modifier mode on right side of modifier page is nice as you don't need to press and hold modifier button, press to enable and repress to disable. It is like a mode switch.

G940 throttle has on base 8 buttons, I have there 31 functions binded and it is easy to use as they are grouped and "pages" are "landing & engine management", "navigation & radio", "targeting submodes & autopilot" and "weapons panel".

And I have usually three modifier, one in throttle (weapons and targeting) and two on stick (flying and subsystems).

When you use a button as a modifier, can that button be used for any other function? I assigned the button down at the base of my WH stick as a nosewheel steering button but can I use it as a modifier for something else while up in the air where nosewheel steering has no purpose?

Lower rotary on the throttle of X-55. I used to have this mapped to zoom, but I'm using VR now so that function no longer applies. Agreed on Jabber's setup seeming super awkward. I assume the TMWH has some pinky buttons/switches like the X-55, seems hard to access those with the throttles split like that.
Same here I was thinking one of the two rotaries. The notch at half turn would be around 45deg for the nozzles I think so that could come in hand for STOL.

I have a X-65F and have a rotary dial by my left thumb on the Throttle.

I think I'll set that to the nozzle control. It will be really easy to control that way.

This is what I am planning to do with my Saitek X-45 (still going strong!). Will be interesting to see how well the axis maps to one of these rotary controls.

Cheers

For those of you picking the gray slider on the warthog, what are you going to use for zoom?

Like some of the others I use the Mic switch for zoom functions. Hate taking my hand off to zoom using the slider (did try it for awhile years ago).

I'll try both methods but I'll probably go with the slider and stick to the common settings I use on all my other aircraft to minimize learning new controls. We'll see, never know...

Great videos by the way, thanks for putting those out.

So my warthog arrived, and after playing about with it I think I'll be mapping to the grey slider axis on the throttle. Seems like the logical choice to Me!

Thanks! As for using the mic switch, do you not play MP? This is where i differ from most i think, I exclusively play MP, so my mic switch is used all the time, up to 3 radios, plus possible Discord for the 4th.

I play almost exclusively MP and use Universe Radio so the mic switch is maxed out as well. I use modifiers...see above if interested. Thanks for the videos bud. I love seeing it in action.

I use the push function on the Mic switch for TS, works fine since we can't use in game radios unfortunately.

An IVC system similar to the "flight sim that shall not be named" would be great, then I would have to swap my comms choices around or perhaps use a modifier.

For myself i'm using a Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas and have decided on using the front rocker switch on the throttle as my nozzle controller.

Got the same, did you modify the rocker (tighten) to stay in place? Not sure about using something that returns to center for the nozzle control, which is why I rarely find any use for the rocker.

I'll be using the left throttle as the nozzle control, there is another simulation in development with the Harrier at the moment, plus an older sim with a certain mod that allows you to fly the Harrier, and the left throttle works very well in both.

For standard short take-off you need to adjust both levelers simultaneously.

Really? Even in the actual harrier cockpit it seems like the throttle and nozzle control lever separation would make that a quite awkward feat, or at least about as awkward as reaching the throttle and the gray slider at the same time.

Making some cheapskate mods at the moment and positioning a small lever in about the same position, haven't screwed it in place yet so there is still a chance to change it. :)
