Ignition Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 Its no secret the Mission Editor needs a lot of love. I would like to have new (and more) buildings, factories, and general statics with improved detail. The ammount we have atm is really low. We have like 1 armed house, 2 factories, and a few general buildings which are simple boxes and containers. -I was thinking in having the new models of the buildings of the new maps available -About 6 different factories -Sea ports and docks -Embassies -Government buildings -Gas Stations -Power Stations These objects will vastly improve the quality of the missions and the variety. Also the possibility to add roads and rails will be great!. If theres somthing that takes away too much time when designing new missions is the placement of things the way you want, distance, orientation, ground inclination... A 3D mission editor would fix this. For example the mission editor of ARMA III, is one of the best (if not the best) mission editors. You can see EXACTLY what you're placing and how and you don't lose time loading the map each time you need to see how you placed everything. 1
crazyeddie Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Buildings ... You could start by looking here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/2919162/ and here https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/2919221/ Most of them with new textures.
carss Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 I would totally +1 for the 3D mission editor! That would be so cool for DCS!! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Planes: FC3, P-51, F-86, F-5E, Mirage 2000, F/A-18, F-14, F-16, Mig-19P :joystick: ED pls gib A-4 and F-4
Northstar98 Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 +1 for all the above, I think a 3D editor is something practically everyone wants, certainly hasn't been the first time it's been suggested. As for buildings, I like your ideas, but what would also be great if we could get buildings specific to a nation - even if this just means a texture change, as well as a redo of many of the more low-res structures to bring them all up to standard (though this might happen anyway with 2.5, because a lot of the structures are in fact objects already present on the <1.5.x Caucasus map Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk. crazyeddie Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 (edited) The problem with static objects, such as buildings, is that they are just that, static do nothing buildings. Making them national causes all sort of problems with airfields, if you put a building on an airfield that airfield becomes unusable by any other country not in that coalition. Aircraft will take off from it, but will not land back at it, they divert to the nearest airfield of their own coalition, red or blue. Its been that way always in DCS World, and its a real pain for map makers. I think ALL buildings should be neutral, as they are in real life, its the presence of troops in or around them that gives them a 'side' of sorts, but the building remains neutral, the bricks and mortar do nothing except fall down or burn when something hits them. The original Flaming Cliffs Version allowed you to see buildings as you placed them on the map but that was lost when they brought in the 2 different game engines for DCS World, and I cant see any way they can make that happen again. But I do agree, it was REALLY useful. Edited November 23, 2017 by crazyeddie

laumaya Posted November 24, 2017 Posted November 24, 2017 Yes a 3D editor with undo/redo like ARMA III mission editor. It will be great. Current specs: Windows 10 64bit, i7-7700K @ 4.8 Ghz, 32 GB RAM, 1 To SSD, RTX2070-Super, TrackIR 5, TM Warthog, TM T.Flight Rudder Pedals

Yeah, I imagine most map objects would be neutral anyway as they're common to both as well as civillian, obviously military ones (FARPs and associated stuff, Ammunition Depots, Command Centre etc) should probably have their allegiance assigned to them. I do however like what you said about having buildings able to be populated so to speak, that's something Arma 3 does with vehicles, vehicles are marked neutral unless someone of a specific coalition enters it then it becomes assigned, that would be excellent for DCS, it may also improve the damage modelling for them (so things can be 'killed' without levelling the building or blowing up a vehicle, if all the crew/occupants die then that's a mission kill if you see what I'm saying. As for the accurate top-down silhouettes of static objects and ground vehicles, that would be excellent, though for infantry we would probably need another zoom level to be able to differentiate individual units - though obviously something like Arma 3's EDEN 3D editor, combined with the current 2D editor would be the real king pin here, though we probably won't see that for a while. flo57100 Posted November 26, 2017 Posted November 26, 2017 I think it's REALLY time for 3D mission editor, 15 years in the past IL2 had already a 3D objects placement function...
