nice landings! but how do you keep the plane from rolling backwards? i've been able to land once or twice only to plunge into the sea by rolling backwards...applying the brakes didn't seem to help me.

If you're landing on a moving carrier after the most recent patch, it's bugged. Land on a stationary one. This will be fixed, then you can land on a moving one just fine.
