sgtmike74 Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 What is the method of locating your ship, out at sea? Is there a way to add TACAN to a moving ship, to help locate it?
Knubinator Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 The ship should have its own TACAN and some kind of ILS/AWLS (super interested to see how/if that's implemented), but like they said, some ship assets aren't implemented right now. Just like the bug where if you're on the ship, and it stops, you get launched off the front because the plane keeps moving. That was a hilarious discovery. i7 4790k @ 4.4, 32GB RAM, RX480 GTR I fly it all.
Zarma Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 Still WIP, the TACAN will be added to the ship AND the KC130. i9 9900k, 64 Go RAM, RTX 4090, Warthog HOTAS Throttle & Stick, Virpil AH64 collective, TPR rudder, MFD Cougar, Trackir 5 Pro, Multipurpose UFC, Alain Dufour's TEDAC and Oculus Rift S (when I want some VR), http://www.twitch.tv/zarma4074 / https://www.youtube.com/user/Zarma4074

While we wait for the ship's systems to be built by Razbam, it's always a good idea for the mission builder to put an AEGIS cruiser in the Tarawa's group. The Harrier's RWR detects its radar's emissions from long distances afar, which greatly helps to locate the naval group, even at night. 1
ESAc_matador Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 I tried to put a tacan in the coordenates of a Tarawa in beacons.lua. and it is a no go...

The Harrier's RWR detects its radar's emissions from long distances afar, which greatly helps to locate the naval group, even at night. That's a great idea! It does make me wonder, whether or not they WOULD broadcast a TACAN signal in a high threat scenario though. If that is the case, I wonder what alternate methods would go into getting their pilots back to the ship after missions. I set up a couple of missions where I flew out to meet the Tarawa, and it gets pretty empty out there once you lose sight of land. Without a signal, I bet it's a pretty scary situation to be in. Big props to the WWII naval pilots of the day!
Ratcatcher Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 That's a great idea! It does make me wonder, whether or not they WOULD broadcast a TACAN signal in a high threat scenario though. I think he's actually referring to the weapon tracking/detection system's on the ship as apposed to an actual TACAN system. So basically the ship will be "pinging away" that shows up on your RWR. Which I would imagine, would be dependent on the ships mission at the time, rules of engagement, etc. Techlabs Chameleon Watercooled Gaming PC - Intel Core i7 6700K @ 4.7GHz : Samsung 950 Pro 256GB SSD, Samsung 500 gig SSD, Seagate 1TB 7200RPM Drive : MSI GeForce GTX 1080 "Founders Edition" 8192MB : 800W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply : 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C16 3200MHz : Occulus Rift S : TM Warthog : MFG Crosswind V2 : Win 10 64. Vlerkies Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Remember this guy? :D Never seen that before, thanks In 2007, Britain’s National Archives released a number of Royal Navy files, and the second inquiry report was finally made public. Noting that Watson had completed only 75 percent of his training before he had been sent to sea, the board blamed Watson’s inexperience, and his commanders for assigning him an airplane “not fully prepared for the sortie,” a reference to radio problems. Nonetheless, Watson was reprimanded and given a desk job. Watson eventually acquired 2,000 hours in Sea Harriers and another 900 in F/A-18s before resigning his commission in 1996. Today, he says that media attention embarrassed Royal Navy brass and caused the punishment, but refuses to point fingers. “It was me,” he says. “I was there and that’s where it should stop.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alraigo_incident Thermaltake View 91, Z390 Gigabyte Aorus Ultra, i9 9900K, Corsair H150i Pro, 32Gb Trident Z 3200, Gigabyte Aorus Extreme 2080ti, Corsair AX1200i, Warthog A-10 Hotas, MFG Crosswind pedals, TiR5 Pro, HP Reverb Pro

Zarma Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Only works in easy comm right now. Even if written as 127.5, the preset comm doesnt work for this case. i9 9900k, 64 Go RAM, RTX 4090, Warthog HOTAS Throttle & Stick, Virpil AH64 collective, TPR rudder, MFD Cougar, Trackir 5 Pro, Multipurpose UFC, Alain Dufour's TEDAC and Oculus Rift S (when I want some VR), http://www.twitch.tv/zarma4074 / https://www.youtube.com/user/Zarma4074
Andrei Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 The easiest way to find him would be to make a flight plan, where the two waypoints before the last one would form projected ship path for the duration of the mission (assuming it sails straight). So given the ship is going ~15 knots and your mission is planned to last 1.5 hours (let's assume we use tanker). Set one WP 15 nm from ship's starting position at the moment of takeoff along it's projected course and another WP 30 nm from the present position. This will give for a 'fork' of the search area. I did similar thing to find airbases around Normandy in bad weather. Bunch of partiot/hawk radars at the center of the airfields of interest do the job nicely. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]Regards!
