IanHx2 Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 Went into DCS, created a fast mission - using the spitfire, set area to Normandy..... but can't see where I need to specify 'use WW2 units only ' ? It's seems slightly unsporting when flying along in my Spitfire only to be shot down by a BVR missile from a Su-27 !!!!

That way, you pick and place only the exact aircraft types you want. Buzzles Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 You can't currently. If you want, you can generate a mission in the ME, then go and manually change all the units to their WWII equivalent, but there's nothing automatic in the sim to do it. Fancy trying Star Citizen? Click here!
Flagrum Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 It should be possible to adjust (or copy and change) the Mission Generator Templates that are used to build the missions. But tbh, I never got to get used to the Mission Generator - it seems to be fairly ... unintuitive.
schurem Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 Am I right to conclude there are no aircraft in the ww2 objects pack thus far? I5 9600KF, 32GB, 3080ti, G2, PointCTRL
QuiGon Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 Am I right to conclude there are no aircraft in the ww2 objects pack thus far? No, you're not. The B-17 is included as stated on the product page: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/products/other/wwii_assets_pack/ Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
Art-J Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 It's still very "rough around the edges" though, as far as DM and AI is concerned, so I would say we've got 0.75 of an aircraft in the Assets Pack ;). The Fortress is great for movies and screenshots, but not all that much for anything else yet. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.

The Fortress is great for movies and screenshots, but not all that much for anything else yet. I have not tested the Fortress, but knowing the DM in DCS I can imagine that it is not well working. But that should get better when the DM overhaul arrives. But what is wrong with the AI? A proper bomber AI shouldn't be too difficult to make. A bomber's "AI" just keeps flying straight and level while you waddle around behind it taking pot shots at it :) The damage model is very simple though, I believe the only thing that happens is, after a couple hits, one wing breaks off and it augers in. That's it--always the same wing, and it doesn't matter where you hit it. Since the B-17 is such a big hunk of tin, it would require a much more complex damage model to present a convincing target than a small, single engine fighter. You can set up a pile of 'em for a big turkey hunt, but it won't be very entertaining at this point. That's something for the future. Captain Orso Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 It's all still very much WIP (Work In Progress); very far from complete. The DM (Damage Model) is a huge project from ED and will change a lot of things very much. BTW "waddeling" in behind a B-17G is the surest was to become a statistic, with 3 pairs of .50 cals spraying lead in your direction. Head-on and deflection passes are your best bet to survive. I completely suck at deflection passes :) It doesn't help that the sim seems to ignore anything but direct-from-behind hits; although maybe my gunnery is just that crappy :) Kit: B550 Aorus Elite AX V2, Ryzen 7 5800X w/ Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE, 2 x 16GB Kingston Fury DDR4 @3600MHz C16, Asus ROG Strix RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB, EVGA SuperNova 750 G2 PSU, HP Omen 32" 2560x1440, Thrustmaster Cougar HOTAS fitted with Leo Bodnar's BU0836A controller. --Aviation is the art of throwing yourself at the ground, and having all the rules and regulations get in the way!
