bart Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Bit of advice needed please. Just had to replace my system due to a PSU failure. New rig has an 11GB GTX 1080Ti. On the back of the card there are 3 Display Ports and 1 HDMI. Now I need the only HDMI port for the rift, but I'm having issues with the Display Ports working with my 32" Sony TV which I use as a monitor. It works no problem on an HDMI cable direct to the TV but intermittent or not at all on the Display Adapter ports using this cable :- https://www.amazon.co.uk/Displayport-Adapter-Benfei-Display-Converter/dp/B017Q8ZVWK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1515092619&sr=8-2&keywords=DP+port+to+HDMI+adaptor It sometimes works for a short time then the TV either displays a message along the lines of "unsupported signal input" with a black screen or just turns to a black screen with no message. I had it working last night for a couple of hours and had DCS running on the rift no problems, but today I cant get past the cable issue. When it does work I have seen green lines appear on the screen just before the unsupported signal message pops up. I'm running the latest Nvidia drivers 388.71 How do you guy's connect your 1080Ti to a monitor/tv when using the rift? Any advice would be very appreciated :) System :- i7-12700K 3.6 GHz 12 core, ASUS ROG Strix Z690-A Gaming, 64GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200MHz, 24GB Asus ROG Strix Geforce RTX 3090, 1x 500GB Samsung 980 PRO M.2, 1x 2TB Samsung 980 PRO M.2, Corsair 1000W RMx Series Modular 80 Plus Gold PSU, Windows 10. Fanatic Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 I use DP to my Dell monitor, no issues. Can you change the DP type on the TV? Like 1.1 or 1.2? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
dburne Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Yeah I too run a display port cable from the 1080 Ti to my monitors with no problem. Obviously I am sure going to a TV may be a little bit different. You might also post this over on the Oculus forums. bart Posted January 4, 2018 Author Posted January 4, 2018 (edited) Can you change the DP type on the TV? Like 1.1 or 1.2? Not that I am aware. Under options it just says "Auto, General, Graphics" etc. for Scene Select. Under "Input" there are HDMI1, HDMI2, AV1, AV2, PC, and analogue/Digital signal. Yeah I too run a display port cable from the 1080 Ti to my monitors with no problem. So are you guys going from a DP to a VGA socket on your monitor? dburne Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 So are you guys going from a DP to a VGA socket on your monitor? I run two monitors, one of them had Display Port so I used that. My other monitor had only HDMI and VGA, I used a Display Port to HDMI adapter for it. bart Posted January 4, 2018 Author Posted January 4, 2018 My other monitor had only HDMI and VGA, I used a Display Port to HDMI adapter for it. This is what I am using and having difficulty getting it to work. Only difference is I'm using a TV rather than a monitor. I wonder if it's a signal thing.....the TV isn't compatible with the signal from the GPU's DP port? It works great from the HDMI port straight to the TV's HDMI socket.....but I need the only HDMI connector on the GPU for the rift!....... Gearbox Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Why not use displayport to HDMI for the rift then? https://forums.oculusvr.com/community/discussion/29713/just-to-confirm-displayport-and-dvi-adapters-do-work
hannibal Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 i have hdmi on rift, DP on my dell 22". no problems find me on steam! username: Hannibal_A101A http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197969447179
cordite Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 I've been using Club3D DP to HDMI adapters for monitor hook ups. So far, so good. They don't have to be "active", your card will take care of that. But pay attention to the version numbers: DisplayPort 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 at the least. I think you can now get DP 1.4 -> HDMI 2.0a. Curious, what model is the Sony? From its viewpoint, the DP on the card should be just like any other HDMI source. 1
bart Posted January 6, 2018 Author Posted January 6, 2018 Thanks for the advice cordite, much appreciated. I ordered a new adaptor cable (DP to HDMI) which arrived today, went for a more expensive one this time and all is working so far :) In the longer term I may replace the Sony Bravia TV for a monitor and go direct from a DP to a DP, but I'm up and running for now. Cheers to all that replied.......thanks for the help guy's System :- i7-12700K 3.6 GHz 12 core, ASUS ROG Strix Z690-A Gaming, 64GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200MHz, 24GB Asus ROG Strix Geforce RTX 3090, 1x 500GB Samsung 980 PRO M.2, 1x 2TB Samsung 980 PRO M.2, Corsair 1000W RMx Series Modular 80 Plus Gold PSU, Windows 10.
