Is it possible to fix the fact that switching audio devices forces you to reboot the game before it picks up on your new audio device.

It's kind of annoying when you are on speakers first but then start up DCS to figure out that you can't switch the headset mid game. It won't provide any audio to the headset or visa versa when you switch over when DCS is already started.

Thank you for your understanding.

Go in close, and when you think you are too close, go in closer.

Configure your system to play over both simultaneously, via "What U Hear" (I use Soundblaster, otherwise it is apt to be "Stereo Mix" or something similar). You can find this under your audio tab on the task bar.

I have my speakers set as my default. In "What U Hear" I selected my headset. Now audio plays over both. If I am using only one or the other, I turn the unwanted one off/down. You will never reboot again ;)

Better yet, rather than having DCS automatically use the default soundcard, have a device selection in the Options menu.

Yes please.

The amount of times I have fired up DCS, only to have the sound NOT play trough my VR headset :)

soo....... no?

Try looking in the audio settings at the clearly labeled boxes where you can select the audio device you want to use. You'll notice they work fine. I have changed them multiple times.

Did this not work 1 or 2 updates ago? I am quite sure you were able to switch audio devices freely in a mission quite recently but now the options are greyed out.

Yep. They are greyed out during a mission for now. (Because of a voice chat bug. The sound engine is actually ok, but their settings are in the same block :( ).

As of today it works. In game hit escape. Options Audio then select the headset itself. This works on the fly. I was restarting the game to get it to recognize sounds. Dont try it in windows. Just do it there.
