I ask because I got the desert Israeli skin, but as soon as the planes wearing them get away from me for a couple hundred feet, their skin reverts back to the original grey cammo of the following lower LOD, and it kinda disrupts the whole look of the F-15. Worse, when there are F-15's on both sides we cant visualy IFF them but down to LOD 0, and then it might be too late.

Is there a way to hand pick and replace LOD textures individualy?

(Before you ask, yes I intend to shrink the texture size down for lower LOD's)

Pilotasso its been a wile but it sounds like you don't have a lods problem but a mitmap problem i don't know how you installed did you just throught a bitmap of the skin in to the temp texture file?Cosmonaut has a great tutorial CDDS Tutorial V2 on installing skins for walimus's F-15 you should check it out

CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.

Yes. I'm also seraching for a solution. I've downloaded many fantastic skins from lockonfiles.com and packed them up into a single CDDS file. Seeing them (espcially with dark colors)returning to the oringinal ones during flight is really an immersion killer. Is there a parameter controlling the distance at which default skins come in?

In this case I think that the texture won't stick to the lower LOD model (each LOD i.e 1, 2, 3 ... has it's own model and with it's own poly count, and arranged in desending order so for example there could be 30k model in LOD1 and 20k model in LOD2 which would be rendered from a grater distance) .Now how do you find which texture belongs to the lod model (that didn't render)?

No idea only one thing, if I wanted the textuer other than grey I would start looking in f-15.cmd by viewing it with a notepad and at the bottom of there some names like .bmp and tga that can be found.

This is just a clue tipe information.

Are you having problems with the old F-15 or something else?

I've only fiddled with Su-27. I'll test Mig29 when I'm off work.

That's been an issue with the Su-27/33 for ages though, far enough away and cyan blue for you.....

I read somewhere that several planes use a different texture at long distance.

Is it a smaller version of the textures we are adding - can't be cause they are the wrong colour.. is it a seperate texture all together.. maybe, or is it reverting to the smaller mipmaps of the original textures in the original cdds instead of using the smaller mipmaps we add - probably...

In the CDDS file there is a small F-15C skin like the soesterberg one (tail letters CF). It is smaller than normal F-15 textures and has the tails on the same texture as the wings etc, I wondered whether the game was switching to this so I editied it and made it darker...

It didn't work...it still switched to light colour at long range.

Once solution I did find is this..

Open your graphics.cfg file in your config folder...

Find the graphic option set you are using... low, medium or high etc (mine is custom)

Find the LOD, this = 1 at low, 1.5 at medium and 1.5 at high..

If you increase this value for whatever setting you are using (say high) to 2.0 or 2.5, the distance at which the aircraft textures switch is significantly increased...

However expect a slight performance hit....

This solution is OK but I'd prefer a better one, so hope someone can find one...

Aurevoir for now...:smilewink:

The problem could be solved if we only knew which file is loaded when LOD switches so we could replace it.

Any Dev has an answer for us here??
