These are a number of ps.1.1 shaders used in Lock On: Modern Air Combat

which have been re-written to attempt to wring a little more speed out of

the game engine. A number of instructions have been changed so that they

are co-issued, and a number of extraneous 'mov' commands have been removed.

 

Some files do not have their 'old' versions left over, as I forgot to save

them. If you notice any graphical anomalies please revert to your old files

and let me know what the error was occuring on, preferably with a screen-

shot, using the following address:

While i was searching for some documentation or hints how to change parameters of the files in the Bazar\Effects folder (Changing color of the Skybox) I found this very interesting mod on http://fellblade.net/projects.htm-"Custom Shaders- ps.1.1". And Hey! - after 1 hour of testing I can say that it boosted my average FPS 4-7 frames up without any graphical anomalies . Now i can land at Krasnodar-Center without stuttering!

This thing is touching a lot of files - it might be a good idea to turn it into a MODMAN package.

What increases, if any did you guys get or did it make it look/run better?

 

Well, i've got it unpacked into my Lockon dir, it overwrote all the files one by one so i suspect it's installed correctly (wisely backed up all the original files first) and TBH, i can't tell any difference whatsoever, either visually or performance wise, looks like yet another placebo......

No difference in frame rate for me.

 

What I did notice was the water explosions do not look as good. The water splash looks more like smoke (i guess due to reduced shaders) and the ripple is gone.

 

The smoke trail from the flares also has been reduced. This might be a good thing for those who are having problems with stutters when the plane they are trailing shoots out a lot of flares.

 

In the end I uninstalled it :)

btw, just a random thought here, since its changing something with the shaders, for nivida users- would this get rid of that dark shadow cause by advance haze + full shadows?

For some reason Modman installed it and it was working,:doh: but i installed it manually like instructed.

 

I can not notice any Bugs now (like white vert lines or lightnings....) but what i noticed is, FPS is crazy.... now i can use LOD 30k/50K with visib on High:huh: . (7800GTX GS Gainward)

 

Therefore many many thx for this nice MoD. Beautifull.:thumbup:

 

BTW: For the Waterexplosion effect there is very nice more FPS friendly mod out there. Makes splashes looking really nice (3D not 2x 2DS)....

U can use it in combination with Shader-Mod, but there is only 1 file in waterexplosion Mod what is interfering with Shader-Mod (double use in Modman-red).

Just kill this on file cuz already implemented by S-MoD.

I don't realised that graphical anomalies at all, everything looks like it runs smother now . I used to play with a max frame rate of 22 in little valleys with trees and a village. With this new files (honestly rather old:2004) i have in the same valley 28 Fps, the same when inbound for landing and a huge boost over water.

I Have a 6600GT and i play on 1024x768 2xAA 4xAF, scenes and texture on high, haze advanced and shadow active planar.

So I'm often in between the significant 20-30 frames that let u realize stuttering.

Now the average FPS is 4-7 frames faster ,but i still don't realize it much over big cities:still 12-20 frames.

 

After asking my Brother to install this mod and report me any changes

I have the vaguest notion that on "gfx limited" systems (with only 4 or 6 active pixel pipelines) like mine, Lockon waits more for the GFX to do the job than for the CPU, so I can benefit of the tweak and see a change in Fps. On highend systems like my brothers (dual core, GeForce 8800) there isn't any change noticable because lockon have already reached the highest Fps (he has average FSP of 34) with this strong GFX and waits only for the CPU to draw the next frame.

I mad a screenshot in one of our standart gunzo missions, far away from land and completly independent of the usage of "SCENE" low, med or high.

 

It is right in the starting Scene of the mission and usually i had bout 50-70 FPS in frozen TrackIR position. Then i made it with same values but S-Mod.

 

Resolution 1600x1200

AA 2x AF 2x

 

Textures High

Precaching 100km ground 50km objects

Water High

Haze Advanced

Heat Blur ON

Lights All

Effect All

Shadow All / Density 0.3

LOD Static 30000 Land 50000 Night and Day

Visib Range High

Mirrors OFF

As u can see there is really a nice nice Boost 151 FPS , but i still cant fly with scene High and VIsib High(1st privilege in my eyes) low over Krasnodar with more then 10-18FPS.

 

As soon i go SCENE on Low i can enjoy everything on this game, but as far i enable the "fly-through-me" trees and transparent Buildings (Fogparam2=0 makes non transparent btw.) the problems begin.

 

The really ONLY problem what lockon has so far is rendering Objects on Ground (look MSFS or FSX flying in NY..HOaH ! )

It's there check again.

 

Do a quick SU-33 fly mission from the menu. You will start right over water just dive into the water a couple times and look at the water explosion with default then do it again with the mod.

 

You will see that some of the ripples are gone. You will only see one instead of the original (3 i think).

 

When the water splashes the splash looks just like a white blob similar to the one RVE AS posted.

 

The flares also has a thiner trail.

 

I didn't gain any fps so I just stayed with default set up to avoid any further glitches.

Has someone the files you need to run this tweak - all links are dead for me.

I found a link where you can download it, but you have to register and my Spanish is more than poor - google translate can not run while registration.

edit': I'm on vacation - but stay at home -and testing out every tweak for LockOn that is out there ( and this is #34 on my list :P)

this worked for me but now I have the same white mark circle from the trackir on the ground. As in DCS Balck Shark.
