I hope not, Our group is focused around FB.

We have 400 plus members who all use it to talk, share experiences, arrange flights and have fun

It's not like you don't have plenty of alternatives.

Having said that, I personally hate FB, but am on it due to many family members using the site, so it helps to keep in touch.

I think I'd rather see FB, and social media in general, learn from this and adapt, as apposed to seeing FB fail altogether. Remember, there are tens of thousands of jobs, people feeding their kids, paying for their homes etc who depend on FB for their weekly paycheque. It's not just Zuckerberg rolling in cash...

Business is business though, and if you're not paying for it, it's because you are the product. Honestly, I'm more concerned about Microsoft and the way Windows 10 (a paid product) throws adds in your face and harvests your data. It's easy to not use social media, it's not so easy to not use Windows. Hell, I'm an OSX person, and I still *need* windows (playing DCS and gaming in general, along with some work specific software).

Then, there is this...

You would think people would?

Most possibly don't care? Look at Volkswagen, look at all the things they have done. A German company also accused of gassing people in tests.

Will they go broke? Will people stop buying from this fraudulent ironic company?

Quote....

"Although the emissions test-cheating scandal of September 2015 has cost the German group billions of euros in fines and penalties, it does not seem to have caused major damage to the carmaker’s popularity with consumers."

Deliveries rose 4.2 percent in 2017 to 6.23 million Volkswagen (VW) brand cars

.

This should be something that scares the hell out of people. A German company, a pillar of of the EU, is doing this. It's not China, not some third world SE Asian nation, or some Democratic Republic of Blood & Dictatorship in Africa... But a gigantic company, in Germany, heart of the EU...

Not really. When the dust settles and the ADD minded public forgets, they'll be back on facebook.

These sort of actions are ones of convenience, not conviction.

Reformers hate him! This one weird trick found by a bush pilot will make gunfighter obsessed old farts angry at your multi-role carrier deck line up!

When Nestle and Heinz, BMW and Daimler Benz leave the show, it's time to wake up

They're not doing it because they're "Woke".

They're doing it for the bottom line.

Looks like a popular thing to do - they're in.

They're corporate sheep, trying to guess where t he herd is going, 'cause that's where the money is, but wanting to look like they're leading the way. There will be numerous consumer focus groups that have helped them take their moral stance.

If they thought it would be good for business, they'd give you a free Facebook account today with every purchase...

Cheers.

Had to add this: http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/facebook-use-data-mining-angus-reid-survey-1.4592371

So 1 in 10 might suspend or delete their account. Of daily users, 5% might slow down....

So, yeah, FB isn't looking too bad atm.

I deleted my facebook account months ago. Should have done it earlier. I don't tweet, or instawhatever, or partake in any other kinds of social media with the exception of this and a couple other forums.

I personally am not a fan of social media, it has shown its ugly head and pushed in the unintelligent into power. The sooner its gone the sooner mankind can move forward.

LoL,

You know that "Liberal" and "Communist" are not synonyms don't you ?

"Liberal" is a social attitude, and "Communist" is a form of economic organisation.

Early Christians were "Communist", but socially conservative.

The 'Democratic Party' is "Liberal", but profoundly aligned with the interests of status quo Capitalists.

Cheers.

Hi All

For everyone awaiting the downfall of FB with expectant glee. Just a thought, what other pies do they have their fingers in. I point your attention to our VR users using Occulus Software, even though maybe directly unrelated, following a recent update on my phone software and its compatible VR unit that uses Occulus software, the said software and VR now appears to be owned by FB. Just a thought!

Voluntary common possessions and forced equalization are not anywhere near the same thing. And those in the US who would identify as liberals are very much pushing socialism/communism.

I am particular about developing friendships, I have a couple.

FB for me is a stash for interesting stuff and bass guitar studies---saves.

Great place to go read about metallurgy and machine shop groups and flight sim groups.

What's the problem?

Fake News to manipulate money deals, no doubt!!

Do you think it is reasonable for what you get ('interesting stuff' and bass quitar studies) that facebook virtually trys to track everything you do on the internet? Down to the most personal levels. I mean not only ON facebook, but everywhere you surf. (Like buttons see what you do etc.) Also about the people you are in contact with, that are not even on facebook.

Facebook app on your phone? Why of course facebook is entitled to every piece of data your phone ever had!

And no, it's not just about FB, but how 'big data' is saved and used generally. Yes, I am ranting and dramatizing everything, but in my mind, all this shit is just 'one bad vote' away from getting dangerous to our lives..

Might we actually get you to try to look at this stuff:

You will be in for a lot.

/sorry for the rant, this topic has me enraged for years :D

My phone is a flip-up. I am still in the stone age!

Anything PC on-line is most likely tracked. And including phone use, non-PC.

I used to know a NY State Police investigator.

A search warrant is not necessary to gather intelligence, just necessary to present evidence into the courts.

He was an active cop 30 years ago!!

Figure somebody is looking over your shoulder...

Sorry, I don't do Twitter, don't have an account. I will read what i can.

Ever been into the record room in the old land-line based telephone company? Look into how the USA FBI does their thing.

I am a USA citizen on a Russian owned forum server and make purchases out of Moscow. I figure Uncle has been looking at me for years.

Bet on it, every move you make via your Internet company, archives it. Nothing is done in secret unless you encrypt each move.

Encryption only makes it worse.

As soon as you run VPN's, use SSH tunnels...they are all after you.

Hide something and they all wanna look into your bag.

Nothing is secure. If it is important, never enter it into a PC, take a paper and a pen

FB has owned Oculus for about four years now. You just haven't been paying attention.

That is why it is so dangerous, they know they can hold people hostage and sell their data to make their enormous amounts of money. We may have to make sacrifices in the name of truth and justice.

I have 5 permanent VPN's site-2-site, additional Client-2-Site VPN's, a Bittorrent client pumping GB's of DCS install files up, encrypted I guess (?), run a Bitcoin Wallet Node, a miner... yeah.. I was amazed if I had no zero-day exploit trojan in my system from some "authority" from god knows what country, no kidding.

As soon as you run encryption of any kind, it's said that your data is being recorded and analyzed.

I would be surprised if it was any different.
