Hi Folks,

Has anyone upgraded from a 1080 to a 1080 TI?

What sort of performance increase have you seen with DCS?

I've just gone Oculus VR.

My 1080 is using the full 8GB and running at about 80% to 90% with occasional spikes to 100%.

Specs:-

Intel Haswell i7 4770k CPU 3.5GHz (OC 4.1GHz), Asus Gryphon Z87 Motherboard, 32GB Corsair Vengeance LP DDR3 1600MHz RAM,

EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 SC Gaming 8 GB GDDR5X PCI Express 3 Graphics Card.

From the research I've been doing the performance increase from a 1080 to a 1080 TI can vary:-

What sort of performance increase could I expect to see with DCS 2.5?

Would this upgrade eliminate some of the occasional stutter, ie will DCS run smoother?

Many thanks.

I'd wait to see if the 1100 series (or 2000 series, whatever they call it) is released within the next six months (there's rumours), rather than go for a 1080ti upgrade from a 1080 now and then get burnt by a new card that smashes my now obsolete and expensive upgrade. Especially if you want the most out of your Oculus (a 1080ti still won't be able to max it out). It's hard, but I've been holding off on a 1080ti for a while now... But that's just me. ;)

I went from a 1080 to a 1080 Ti, and while I have no hard data that I could share on the difference, I felt the somewhat better performance I got out of it was worth it to me. However I fly in VR only, and with VR every bit helps.

I certainly did not regret doing it. Plus I was able to sell my 1080 on Ebay for practically what I had paid for it.

The above of course is a very subjective thing.

Hmmm, 80-90% ???

I am not really sure if you can benefit from the faster card unless you crank up LOD or resolution.

The settings you are currently running are stressing your CPU further as it can reach, thus your 80-90%. This will then be rather 50-70% and sometimes 90% with a Ti.

Either one will help:

- OC your CPU beyond it's current stage, 4.5 I think is achievable with a good cooler.

- Use a higher resolution to dump the energy in pixels ( wont tax the CPU )

- Increase LOD ( might tax the CPU even more with one or the other setting, I am unsure here )

Right now, a faster card will not unfold it's full potential.

See, I did a quick test 2 days ago, I went stock clocks with my rig, 4.3GHz, Ram 2133, GPU default.

Even with the GPU in default, I often had 80% GPU load ONLY, which OI never see at 5.0 or 5.2, even with an overclocked GPU. Do you see yourself in this example ?

Thanks for your input folks.

After having done a bit more research it seems to be best to wait for the next gen cards/cpu's rather than upgrade now.

Going to focus on a bit of overclocking this weekend.

Cheers.

Good luck mate, but before you try and over clock

take a backup of your OS drive incase something goes wrong (acronis is great for this)

I definitely waiting for the next gen. It'll be out in the next couple of months I'd assume.

I went from a 1080 to a 1080ti. Using a cv1.

The difference was about 20%.

That was pre 2.5 tho
