JNelson Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 Are we getting some kind of IFF with the radar on early access? Community A-4E-C
Beamscanner Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 (edited) FYI, the radar will display HAFU (Hostile, Ambiguous, Friendly or Unknown) symbology if targets are -designated L&S or DT2 (soft lock) -under the cursor in LTWS -hard locked in STT -target is being tracked in TWS As of now, the only one of those available is STT. And STT doesn't seem to work for more than 2 seconds right now anyway. Raw hits (bricks) wont display if the target is friendly or not. That is unless ED is simulating a newer lot of the radar than I'm familiar with. Edited May 13, 2018 by Beamscanner
MrDieing Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 Thats assuming that ED is actually simulating that. At the moment it is not simulated at all in DCS and all aircraft base it purely on the coalition the contact is in. Banzaiib Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 Awww yeah, chaos in the skies. I remember when the IFF didn't work when the EA mirage was released... so many TK's :)

Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
Fri13 Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 As long we get even a cheated IFF version it is fine. Yes it is one of the most protected secrets the IFF codes just before nuclear weapons launch codes etc. But as the IFF principles are well known, it can be simulated (simulation doesn't mean everything needs to be perfection, only that the basic functions are there). Eventually we should be getting a better radar simulations based fluid/sound simulation and then start to do more complex simulations than just "friend or foe". i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.

I made some proposals about this a few years ago: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=161240 Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
wilbur81 Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 NCTR? FYI, the radar will display HAFU (Hostile, Ambiguous, Friendly or Unknown) symbology if targets are -designated L&S or DT2 (soft lock) -under the cursor in LTWS -hard locked in STT -target is being tracked in TWS Will the simulated radar employ NCTR? Pretty sure I've read that the later model APG for "C" hornets do. i7 8700K @ Stock - Win11 64 - 64gb RAM - RTX 3080 12gb OC
Beamscanner Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 (edited) Thats assuming that ED is actually simulating that. At the moment it is not simulated at all in DCS and all aircraft base it purely on the coalition the contact is in. I'm perfectly fine with cheating the Mode 4/5 IFF simulation.. Its not like there much more to it than 'are you friendly or not'... Will the simulated radar employ NCTR? Pretty sure I've read that the later model APG for "C" hornets do. yes, but only in certain modes. For sure STT, and maybe the L&S (soft lock) track under certain conditions.. Wow, cool stuff. Could you elaborate more please? HAFU is the only way to know if a target is friend or not. HAFU tracks can also be colored (if the color option is selected on the data sub-page) green for friendly, yellow for unknown or ambiguous, and red if hostile. Tracks are automatically made "friendly" if they have the correct IFF response. Every track without the proper IFF response is made Unknown. The pilot has to manually alter tracks to make them "hostile" or "ambiguous" in the SA page IFF information is also displayed on the top right of the radar attack page in small numbers representing the modes the current track is responding to. Below you can see mode 4, 2, and mode S being displayed. The image is taken from a youtube video. The CRT display can raster red and green, but also both red and green to make a yellow icon. in this case we can see that its rastering both a green and a red icon for the IFF info, meaning that the true color being seen by the pilot is yellow. (IFF data is actually yellow, the shudder of the camera makes you only see either the green or the red raster of the CRT) Those triangles are ALR-67 (RWR) tracks :) If flying a 'realistic' mission (no flankers on blue team/no eagles on red team, etc), these can help you associate radar returns with BLUFOR vs REDFOR emitters. (ie you have only raw hits on the radar, but directly above those raw hits you have a MIG-29 Radar on the same bearing) If a track is made "Hostile" the TD box will rotate 90 degrees and a diamond (instead of a box) will be displayed in the HUD. Knock-Knock Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 Do we know more about IFF for EA, or if not implemented yet, when can we expect it? Been looking around, but not been able to find anything. - Jack of many DCS modules, master of none. - Personal wishlist: F-15A, F-4S Phantom II, JAS 39A Gripen, SAAB 35 Draken, F-104 Starfighter, Panavia Tornado IDS. | Windows 11 | i5-12400 | 64Gb DDR4 | RTX 3080 | 2x M.2 | 27" 1440p | Rift CV1 | Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS | MFG Crosswind pedals |
backspace340 Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 It's not in the version the Youtubers have had access to (and which we'll probably get tomorrow), made explicit by Crash Laobi here: https://youtu.be/L4QKUGqRStc
Oceandar Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 Good stuff in this thread, thanks alot. We need this kind of explanations otherwise as been said its gonna be alot of TK in MP. Mastering others is strength. Mastering yourself is true power. - Lao Tze
