Utilities/Mods/Texture Mods

I post enclosed README:

SkyColorMod 1.2 final package README - (for LOMAC & FC v.1.12a - tested on FC v.1.12a)

Finally I've found the way to change sky color without yellow night bug of previous version (1.1). I've modified sky luminance and RGB conversion.

I've obtained several sky color: from dark grey (like thunderstorm) to light grey (like snowing).

Now, You can load any SkyColorMod (rain or snow or thunderstorm) instead to load ED standard overcast clouds (fps killer), set clouds density (from 1 up to 8, so to maintain nice fps), and select rain or snow, of course.

Alternately, You can load SkyColorMod (summer or winter or cold front), set clouds density from 0 up to 8, so to create new fairly good sky and ambience.

During night time, SkyColorMod lose its proprieties and You'll see ED nightly standard sky.

However features of SkyColorMod will take You from before the dawn to behind the sunset. (You can fly before and behind these hours without any color anomalies).

I've enclosed ALL SkyColorMods I've obtained, naming them in different way according with grey gradient (that's just my own feeling: use them as You'd like).

SkyColorMods:

01.) SkyColorMod 1.1 summer SU (v. 1.1)

02.) SkyColorMod 1.1 winter WI (v. 1.1)

03.) SkyColorMod 1.2 cold front CF (v. 1.2)

04.) SkyColorMod 1.2 rain 01 (v. 1.2)

05.) SkyColorMod 1.2 rain 02 (v. 1.2)

06.) SkyColorMod 1.2 rain 03 (v. 1.2)

07.) SkyColorMod 1.2 snow 01 (v. 1.2)

08.) SkyColorMod 1.2 snow 02 (v. 1.2)

09.) SkyColorMod 1.2 thunderstorm 01 (v. 1.2)

10.) SkyColorMod 1.2 thunderstorm 02 (v. 1.2)

11.) SkyColorMod 1.2 thunderstorm 03 (v. 1.2)

To avoid muddle, please delete all previous versions of SkyColorMod not enclosed in this package.

In addition, I've found a way to reduce clouds fading on horizon.

By all appearances You'll “see” more clouds: try it with a good visibility ED standard sky and judge Yourself.

12.) SkyCloudsMod 1.2 no fade (v. 1.2)

A.) INSTALLATION

Use at your own risk.

Always make backup copies of original files.

Extract “SkyColorMod 1.2 final package.zip” in a folder of Your choice

- MANUALLY:

Open “SkyColorMod 1.2 - MANUAL” folder.

Select SkyColorMod You'd like to fly,

Replace the files located at:

\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On\Bazar\Effects\SKY\

sky_basic.dat

sky_new.dat

skyfog_b.dat

skyfog_v.dat

For SkyCloudsMod no fade

Replace the file located at:

\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On\Bazar\Effects\CLOUGEN\

cldImp_v.dat

- MODMAN 5:

Open “SkyColorMod 1.2 - MODMAN” folder.

... You know as do it ;)

I suggest Modman5 addon installation because of easiness and quickness for changes.

B.) NOTES

I don't claim SkyColorMods are perfect, complete or realistic 100%.

CONVENIENT SETTINGS of weather menu and original ED sky or SkyColorMod can permit satisfactory results and a GREAT choice of weather conditions. These convenient settings are YOUR responsibility.

Enjoy yourself with LO and SkyColorMod !!!!!

Please, can You add chance to switch ON carrier' lights (for approaches/landings during dark weather daytime, and twilight)? Or at least, leave carrier's lights always switched ON during all time.

That's will be very appreciate ! СПАСИЬО!

Hi mitch!

I'd like to ask you if it's posible to modify the colours of the water in a similar way as the sky accordingly? Im aware of this MODE as being final and it warks for me quite well however it just a thought of introducing another scenery for the sea.

I've looked at some files for water and end up clueless so desided not to f**em up.

I thought i'd give it a try.

Cheers!

I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully.

I'm sorry, I don't know. ... maybe

You should try.

the work is: a change and test, another change and test ..... up to a little result.

All skycolormod have required me about two months.

However you must consider I'm searching about clouds (size, quantity and layers) since ONE year... and I've found JUST how to eliminate fading ... (that's only acceptable result in all work, even if I've found other results).

Now I've deserted it. It's time to fly for me.

Is the intention behind this mod to increase fps, or to make the sky look better?

The intention behind this, is to make the sky look diferent.

Sorry I know this is an old thread but I would like to bump this up a bit. Could someone help create one small version of this mod where the sky is a little bit dark blue?

I think, the side that you want, it has installed HDR Mod, and another Cloud Mod. Not sure.

no it doesn't, that picture was from Yeniceri a long time ago, almost as old as when the Sky mod first came out (so the HDR mod was not installed, maybe mitch's cloud mod). It's the same picture, he just used photoshop on the other side to ask if anyone could tweak the colors like that. It was never done, so I'm asking again.

I know this thread is indeed old, and Mitch probably no longer plays lock on, does anyone know how mitch was able to change the colors of the sky. Like what do I have to alter within the files. It seems possible to be done through notepad.

Hi SuperKungFu,

I unfortunately have no solution to get your wished achievement but I can tell what Mitch did.

He chanced only a four-line block at the and of this four files:

>Lock On\Bazar\Effects\SKY:

- sky_basic.dat

- sky_new.dat

- skyfog_b.dat

- skyfog_v.dat

Scroll to the end of any of them and you will find this block:

dp3 r0.x,r1,c10

dp3 r0.y,r1,c11

dp3 r0.z,r1,c12

min r0,r0,c9.z

mov r0.w,c9.x

For example:

Mitch changed them in "SkyColorMod 1.2 thunderstorm 03"

to this in all four files.

dp3 r0.x,r1,c10

dp3 r0.y,r1,c10

dp3 r0.z,r1,c10

min r0,r0,c9.z

mov r0.w,c9.x

Nothing more and nothing less.

And I have no clue how to control these values and no time to try it out.

Maybe someone else can do it.
