Cowboy10uk Posted June 24, 2018 Posted June 24, 2018 Hi guys and girls, I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but I’m having serious issues getting the tacan working when using the F18. I have set up 2 x tacans In mission editor 1 is the carrier setup as 74x carrier The other is a c130 tanker set up as 11y tkr So I click on TCN to highlight the letters on the ampcd, and this obviously brings up the tcn settings on the ufc. I click on/ off to turn it all on, and then enter 11 enter for channel and make sure Y and A/A is selected. However all that happens is the pointer starts spinning on the ampcd. Likewise if I use the same process but obviously turn off A/A mode for the carrier again the pointer just spins. I can get a reading if I enter 1x on the tacan in A/A mode. Then it gives me bearings to TKR, however it seems to be from the carrier and NOT the c130. I know others seem to have it working with no problems, so any idea where on Earth I’m going wrong. I’ve tried deleting all settings, and redoing the mission, I’ve tried making a brand new mission, but I’m still getting the same issues. RogueRunner Posted June 24, 2018 Posted June 24, 2018 In the mission editor make sure you edit waypoint 0 then add the tacan advanced function thete With the price of ammunition these days do not expect a warning shot.
danny875 Posted June 24, 2018 Posted June 24, 2018 I’m having issues with TACAN too, even in instant action case 1 recovery mission I can’t always seem to receive any info from Stennis. I have created a couple of my own testing missions and can never get TACN working... I edit WP0 and use the activate TACAN function with a possibility of 100% . I realise that there has been an issue reported where sometimes you need to repeat the input on UFC, could anyone point to a step by step guide to creating WPs for the carrier so I can try again? Cheers
Sarge55 Posted June 24, 2018 Posted June 24, 2018 Tankers equipped with TACAN will provide bearing and distance. If you are not getting a signal then there is a setting either in the mission or the aircraft which is not correct. Emmy Posted June 24, 2018 Posted June 24, 2018 Don't know for sure about S-3s or KC-130s, but KC-135s have been bugged with X and Y bands being swapped... Yurgon Posted June 24, 2018 Posted June 24, 2018 I’m having serious issues getting the tacan working when using the F18. Can you upload your training mission? I never had problems with TACAN in the F/A-18C. However, I realized that on the UFC, it helped a lot to keep buttons pressed for a few moments (say half a second) instead of just tapping them real quick. Otherwise, data I entered sometimes got lost and it reverted back to the previous state or data. Tankers, even the S-3, show up with range and bearing and are marked on the HSI just like stationary TACAN stations.

I see how it's done for a tanker but how is it done for a static object to have as a TACAN station as close as possible to the airfield?

Did you click the obs button to the left of "TKN" on your bottom screen? You will need to either select TKN or WPT for the systme to know which one to use.
BSS_Sniper Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 After you click on/off you need to click clear then put in the tacan freq. I’m a bit surprised everyone else missed this. Just the other day someone suggested a pretty cool workaround: Place an AWACS or Tanker to start from ramp, block its taxiway with soldiers or HMMWVs or something, make sure its Advanced Waypoint options for the very first waypoint activate TACAN, and that might do the trick. ED did advertise mobile TACAN stations a while back, and that's going to be a brilliant addition to DCS. Until that feature is available, I guess workarounds are all we have. :smartass:

I figure having TACANs will allow me to place a course line which will help with IFR navigation. Edited June 28, 2018 by fitness88

fitness88 Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 noob question: how can you manage to put a course line on the HSI to help the IFR nav? At night or in bad weather the Course Line if properly configured gives you a fly to point then following the line will take you right to the runway on an accurate final approach for landing.
BSS_Sniper Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 noob question: how can you manage to put a course line on the HSI to help the IFR nav? Just click on the course switch under the UFC on the right. It will show up on the HSI as you begin to make it turn. I9 9900k @ 5ghz water cooled, 32gb ram, GTX 2080ti, 1tb M.2, 2tb hdd, 1000 watt psu TrackIR 5, TM Warthog Stick and Throttle, CH Pedals
