Hey guys,

 

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it hard to pick up speed (quickly) when the nose is pointed straight down, and the jet is in full burner? I've heard ACM instructors call "altitude for energy", using "God's G". I would expect even the little F5 to regain that valuable cornering energy quickly when pointed at the ground in full burner. But here sadly, God's G isn't much help.

 

OR maybe I just suck. Anyhow, I'm interested to know what you think.

Not something I've ever noticed... I don't know, but maybe your expectations were unrealistic? Can you give some numbers as to what you were expecting versus what you're getting?

 

Is this just in the Tiger? I can't dogfight for hell in that thing, it loses energy so easily and is a pig to turn under a certain speed. Bigger jets, though, seem to regain energy much faster when nose down.

Of course gravity has effect, you point the nose up acceleration is slow, level it is normal you point the nose down you accelerate quicker.

Gods G allows you more G at the apex on top of a loop for example as opposed to pulling out of a dive where gravity is against you, try it and you will find it.

God's G is not anything to do with acceleration as I understand it. As explained by Ed Rasimus in the book "Palace Cobra" he describes it more like when you are pulling a loop in the F-4 that near the top as you slow you can pull a little more on the stick. Being slow but with the momentum carried towards the top of the maneuver you can pull a little tighter, making the top of the loop smaller, like an egg. That's God's G, that extra little something at the top there.

Oh, IDK. Seems to work for me. AB engaged at 15 seconds into the flight.

 

Level Flight:

The dives end sooner than the above because the ocean's surface arrives much more quickly moving in this direction...

:) It's my impression that gravity is working quite well.

:) God's G will get you from 6000 meters to the ocean's surface in about 35 seconds. We made it in roughly 22 with the AB's help.
