In game pixel density vs Steam Vr resolution?

Recommended Posts

I have been playing round with my setting and I'm wondering what everybody else is getting fps wise. Would I be better off using 1.0 PD and higher percentage resolution in steam vr?

Just use one or the other.

Personally for me if the game has the setting, I use it first.

I've noticed that it looks a little better using steam vr settings instead

True, was just see if what other results everyone else has been getting. Maybe I'm missing a trick, trying to get rid of jagged edges especially on taxiways, no setting can get rid of it though

As you can see there are some annoying jaggies that I cannot get rid of? Any settings i can change?

That is just the state of the current engine. You could try msaa but it will murder your FPS. Msaa and deferred shader are like oil and water.....

I'd try msaa 2x for the jaggies. If I can run msaa2x on a 980m you should be fine. You might need to lower PD a bit.

Yes I run 2x msaa for that very reason.

Been several threads on this topic recently. Have a look around.

Personally, I use 100% in SteamVR SS (and that is 1.4 x native res despite the confusing naming) plus 1.8 PD in DCS.

However, none of this matters to you as you don’t say what your specs are, and what your other DCS settings are, e.g. MSAA.

Specs are in my sig, no msaa

Honestly, just experiment with settings yourself.

Personally, I feel that MSAA x 2 is essential for the ‘jaggies’. From there, start at SteamVR of 100% and PD of 1.0 and move up from there until you reach an unacceptable fps, then just reel the PD in a bit.

I don't want to bother you … but 100% is the native resolution (and why publicly call it 100% if it's not).

The resolution per eye given by steamvr for 100% is 1.4 times (or 1.96 if vert. per horiz. …) more than HMD's native resolution because it's given before disortion - picture in HMD is distorted to achieve native resolution.

The confusing number (that should be hidden imo) is resolution per eye for pre-distorted image.

Here explained in 1'30 mn by valve in video in 2016 (at 6'02 if video don't start at bookmark):

And so 200% is twice the native resolution's pixel numbers, wich is 1.43 pixel density (in DCS)

I think it's the user Brun that expained that with references some times ago here, and he was right.

Do you mean in SteamVR Settings -> Applications -> SteamVR Home (or DCS)?

Or do you mean in SteamVR Settings -> Video -> Manual Override and adjust slider there?

I haven't touched my SteamVR Settings, so mine are still at their default.

I mean the latter. Careful of the default. SteamVR defaults to 200% for my 2080Ti!

Okay, thanks for clarifying. I checked mine and it was also 200%. I set that back to 100%. Probably explains why my framerate had been cut in half or worse after the last update. It was likely SteamVR, not DCS to blame.
