Well gents,

Just heard today at work March 31st is the last day the Tornado will fly for the RAF. It is officially being retired and replaced by the F-35B and Eurofighter Typhoon. Sad day for the Brits. It is like seeing the Vulcan take its last flight. Thought you guys might enjoy this video I saw today.

The bright side of things is hopefully DCS will be able to bring this legend to the virtual skies for us. I know for a fact the avionics for the Tornado are not being used in the Typhoon or F-35B, so that being said, I can not imagine the systems of the older ones being classified for much longer. The 5th gens are light years ahead of the Tornado when it comes to tech specs now. Hope to see it coming soon to DCS. She was a hell of a bird.

Also another good video

About Italy, for truth's sake, it's yes and no at the same time: A.M.I. Tornados retirement is scheduled in a few years (maybe one or two), as just seems by rumors.

With best regards.

An aircraft being out of service does not equal the systems in said aircraft no longer being sensitive. There will still be a lot of systems/capability info that is very much sensitive and may reflect other aircraft and weapons systems still in service. That situation is likely to remain for decades to come.

Well, the problem is not about tornado. The problem is in systems. Those systems are not only in Tornado, but also in many other aircrafts. Many of new systems are just upgraded old systems, e.t.c...

Also the manufacturer can just say no regardless of system classification just because they don't want their aircraft in a game. I know car manufacturers pretty much don't license there models to games that show damage because of they don't want people to see a Ford or BMW crash and exploded and think "that could be me if I drove one of those!" Maybe some aircraft manufacturers think the same way about their aircraft getting shot down by a mig?

To model an aircraft to the level of say Heatblur's F-14B, you'll need maintenance manuals in addition to the flight, performance & weps manuals.

Did the GR.1 have a fancy or not-so fancy data link? I assume the radar is outdated enough. We/DCS don't care about comms/crypto stuff (thankfully).

New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1)

Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).

Yup, and given the whole Iran angle with the F14 I'm surprised they were able to get all that stuff.

I really like how the navigation data are loaded into cartrige:

That wasn't nav data, he'd just been 'inspired' after watching Iron Eagle.

There are other avenues e.g eBay, online sources etc, however you're generally at the mercy of what is available.

Cleaned this thread up some, it's ok to wish for an aircraft, but the discussion of how why and where on information, or the reasoning behind it isn't up for discussion.

Thank you x
