backspace340 Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 Quick question - in the manual it says: To use Link 4C the data link should be set to Link 4C (AUX) and be tuned to a frequency agreed upon between participating aircraft. Up to four aircraft can participate within a flight and all four aircraft should have different adresses set. As the ground crew set the two most significant bits to be the same for a flight automatically the link can only be used within the same flight currently. That bolded part presents a bit of a problem for using Link-4C in multiplayer, as I understand that most of the bigger MP servers have to place jets individually (rather than in flights) because otherwise it interferes with custom F10 menus. Practically that means that Link-4C won't be usable in MP with the way it's been set up. Are there any plans to implement Link-4C in a different way that's more compatible with how planes have to be placed in MP?
QuiGon Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 Same problem with the Hornets DL atm. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
backspace340 Posted March 8, 2019 Author Posted March 8, 2019 Same problem with the Hornets DL atm. Yep though the Hornet's is a bit less of an issue - that just means you can't label wingmen B, C, D etc. You can still get contacts from and send contacts to other friendly aircraft - you won't even be able to do that in the Tomcat from the sounds of it. Link-4A is a tricky option as well in PVP, as you're relying on the E-2 staying alive for long enough to be useful while being close enough to be of any use.
QuiGon Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 Yeah, true that. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
shagrat Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 Mission Designers should start using Flights (Groups) as intended. The F10 custom menu can be created for every player aircraft with scripts (moose, for example has that covered pretty well). For the matching callsigns from AWACS, ATC and the bigger picture alone I think it is worth the effort. I am afraid that all this stuff that needs to be synced over the network connection in MP finally reaches a bandwidth required in access of what the average user can get... just think about it, in parallel to all the stuff going on we would start syncing a sim equivalent of a real life LINK-16 network in the end? ;) Shagrat - Flying Sims since 1984 - Win 10 | i5 10600K@4.1GHz | 64GB | GeForce RTX 3090 - Asus VG34VQL1B | TrackIR5 | Simshaker & Jetseat | VPForce Rhino Base & VIRPIL T50 CM2 Stick on 200mm curved extension | VIRPIL T50 CM2 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Plus/Apache64 Grip | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | WW Top Gun MIP | a hand made AHCP | 2x Elgato StreamDeck (Buttons galore)
dSAF Dancer Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 the problem why on our servers I cant use groups is, that the parkings on most airports does not fit our needs, so we use the ground spawn everywhere mod. In this setting, we can't move the members of a group independently and so we need to have every plane in its own group. I know that using mods generates such problems, but it still would be nice to be able to assign these groups in the sim. QuiGon Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 Mission Designers should start using Flights (Groups) as intended. That's not really possible on servers like Blue Flag. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
Spiceman Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 Mission Designers should start using Flights (Groups) as intended Not possible... the boat only has four parking spots. While you can place an unlimited number of individual planes on spot 1, if you use 2-plane flights, after your second flight it will say “there are no parking spots for this aircraft” Former USN Avionics Tech VF-41 86-90, 93-95 VF-101 90-93 Heatblur Tomcat SME I9-9900K | Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Ultra | 32GB DDR4 3200 | Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe | RTX 2070 Super | TM Throttle | VPC Warbird Base TM F-18 Stick

We're looking at adding an option to allow those to be set up as well somehow. Not at release though.
wolle Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 The best way to overcome this problem, and many similar ones, would be for DCS to allow menu items (and texts, sounds, etc) to be unit specific. Atm they can be "to all", "to coalition", "to group", but not "to unit" [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Intel Core I7 4820K @4.3 GHz, Asus P9X79 motherboard, 16 GB RAM @ 933 MHz, NVidia GTX 1070 with 8 GB VRAM, Windows 10 Pro

When the F/A-18C released into early access you could easily spawn 3 groups of 2 aircraft with one group delayed. I didn't test more back then, but the mission still worked a couple weeks ago. But yes, currently MP spawn on the Stennis seems broken. I've been noticing less and less servers allowing people to spawn on the deck of a carrier. It's usually still out there, floating along somewhere, but you have to fly to it to be able to use it.
