MrReynolds Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 Okay - can't resist. The "Fleet Defender" has her targeting pod. When are we getting ours?? :( Just want my JTAC fix of entering coordinates, using the pod to hand off to MAVs then BOOM!
StandingCow Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 Once the engineer that is working on HARMs is done he is moving to the targeting pod. No firm ETA. 5900X - 32 GB 3600 RAM - 1080TI My Twitch Channel ~Moo
Yurgon Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 Once the engineer that is working on HARMs is done he is moving to the targeting pod. No firm ETA. Good point. According to yesterdays Hornet Mini Update, HARM PB mode should come with the next OB update. With SP, TOO and PB done, that should take care of HARMs, so I'm guessing work on Litening 2 integration might be about to start internally any day now, if it hasn't already.

Yep, if I were to pull a date out of my ass without any knowledge of how long anything takes I would say a May-June release for the targeting pod. 5900X - 32 GB 3600 RAM - 1080TI My Twitch Channel ~Moo
Gierasimov Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 True and valid Yep, if I were to pull a date out of my ass without any knowledge of how long anything takes I would say a May-June release for the targeting pod. Provided there are no HARM issues preventing the developer to move on to the pod. And there is this new FLIR rendering in progress, right? The way I understood it is, although we are getting the same pod that the Hog uses, or as said by Wags, not a Navy pod but Marines pod, we are still getting it with the new FLIR rendering. Wasn't this true? I am not sure about May - June thing, as with the pace that Hornet updates go so far, this could be even "soon" (April) or perhaps "not too distant future" (July) :), either way, the progress on this module is the best I think. The best thing is we can do that without the pod already and works not that bad. I wish there was MGRS support for our Bug already. Wasn't this true? I don't think so. The way I understood it is that we'll be getting the ATFLIR TGP with completely new IR rendering at some point in the future. In the meantime, they decided to add the Litening 2 that we already have in the A-10C (and the Harrier) as a kind of quick'n dirty drop-in solution so that we can self-lase targets rather quickly, but I don't think it'll be any different from the A-10C TGP in terms of the core technology.
Gierasimov Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 Fair enough, even better to do one change at a time, specifically it is not simple code copy & paste operation. delevero Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 In a 2-3 day old podcast wags did indeed say that once the harm modes are finished the that developer will go fulltime on the TGP. ( My guess. other programmers have been working on it for a while ) He also said that the TGP actual is among some of the upcomming new features, in the near future. So what i asume by that is its max 1 month away before we get some basic TGP. Personaly if i can just get a TGP that can look at a waypoing and then lase for gpu bombs then that is a good start. Then at least we can find the enemy. And one of the next upcomming features they are working on are to finish the data link system. Many of the future features for the hornet require the link 16.. example sending/recieving target data from your wingman. GPS system for bombs. Marking radar data/coordinate/mark target and such things.
MrReynolds Posted March 14, 2019 Author Posted March 14, 2019 I agree we're slowly getting there. My dream scenario: Fight through a flight of Migs Clear longer range SAMs with MAVs using coordinates given to us by JTAC Use the HMD to mark a short range SAM launch position and pass to an auto bombing solution whilst another flight swoop in and take out the enemy base. Get an emergency JTAC call about TIC and take THOSE buggers out too! Land back at the carrier using ICLS and have tea and biscuits! Oh. And ALL in a dynamic campaign....... Give it another 2 weeks :music_whistling:
